Why Don't We Do What We Want? Non-Consumers and the Public Dilemma in Cultural Promotion

2005

We deal with tastes and preferences, revising the linkages between both in order to analyse the special case where we express preferences to goods that do not appeal to us. We deduce the concept of a deconstructed demand and define two types of goods (embarrassing and reputable). With the help of this structure we build a demand function for cultural promotion, where the non-market-expressed non-consumers' preferences are the basis of the demand for cultural policies. Finally, in this framework the State faces a dilemma that could be solved in different ways.

Qu'attendent les enseignants universitaires français en termes de formation et d'accompagnement pédagogiques ?

2011

Addressing and analysing needs is as essential step of curriculum and instructional design within the framework of faculty development units. This article studies educational and professional development needs established by French faculty through an inquiry. The purpose is to take into considerations specific aspects related to our context. The study indicates a low interest of faculty in answering the questionnaire but a high interest in educationaldevelopment for those who take part. More precisely, if the respondents hold junior positions, their expectations do not differ from more experienced teachers. All express multiple needs basically related to the need to understand students, to …

Results of a literature review on methods for estimating buildings energy demand at district level

2019

Abstract In the framework of distributed energy planning, evaluating reliable energy profiles of different sectors has a prominent role. At the same time, it is a quite challenging task, since the availability of actual energy profiles of buildings at the district level is not widespread. A survey of over 70 studies in scientific literature has been accomplished and a set of criteria has been defined for classifying the selected contributions based on the energy demand data features, source and/or estimation methods, highlighting the ones adopting hourly energy profiles. As final results, tables summarizing the main methods characteristics and a selection of studies providing directly useab…

A distributed agro-hydrological model for irrigation water demand assessment

2008

Abstract The actual irrigation water demand in a district in Sicily (Italy) was assessed by the spatially distributed agro-hydrological model SIMODIS (SImulation and Management of On-Demand Irrigation Systems) . For each element with homogeneous crop and soil conditions, in which the considered area can be divided, the model numerically solves the one-dimensional water flow equation with vegetation parameters derived from Earth Observation data. In SIMODIS, the irrigation scheduling is set by means of two parameters: the threshold value of soil water pressure head in the root zone, h m , and the fraction of soil water deficit to be re-filled, Δ . This study investigated the possibility of i…

Home energy management system : a home energy management system under different electricity pricing mechanisms

2014

Masteroppgave i fornybar energi ENE 500 Universitetet i Agder 2014 Peak demand is a severe problem in the electricity grid and it was solved by supply side management in the past. But nowadays the demand side management sources have drawn attention due to the economic and environmental constraints. Demand side management in the domestic sector can play an important role in reducing the peak demand on the power system network. It can help in reducing stress and overloading on the transmission and distribution lines. In many countries there are various demand response programs implemented for industrial and commercial loads. In these programs load control is primarily achieved by various type…
