Image quality with multifocal intraocular lenses and the effect of pupil size

Purpose To analyze the image quality with a refractive and 2 hybrid refractive–diffractive multifocal intraocular lenses (IOLs) in vitro to determine the IOL modulation transfer function (MTF) following the EN-ISO international standard for distance and near vision and to study the IOLs' behavior with different pupil sizes. An ontology for cognitive mimetics

AI and autonomous systems are intended to replace people in several jobs. People have worked in these jobs being able to execute the required information processing. This implies that new technical artefacts must be able to perform equitably effective information processing. Thus, it makes sense to develop the analysis of human information processing in designing intelligent systems. This approach has been termed cognitive mimetics. This paper studies how it would be practical to gain knowledge about human information processing and organize this knowledge using ontologies.

In this paper we propose a three-layered neural network for binary pattern recognition and memorization. Unlike the classic approach to pattern recognition, our net works organizing itself in an unsupervised way, to distinguish beetween different patterns or to recognize similar ones. On the use of artificial intelligence tools for fracture forecast in cold forming operations

Abstract The design of cold forming processes requires the availability of a procedure able to deal with the prevention of ductile fracture. In fact, the ability to predict fracture represents a powerful tool to improve the production quality in mechanical industry. In this paper, artificial intelligence (AI) techniques are applied to ductile fracture prediction in cold forming operations. The main advantage of the application of AI tools and in particular, of artificial neural networks (ANN), is the possibility to obtain a predictive tool with a wide applicability. The prediction results obtained in this paper fully demonstrate the usefulness of the proposed approach.

Pulmonary function is impaired in untreated mucopolysaccharidosis type VI (MPS VI). Pulmonary function was studied in patients during long-term enzyme replacement therapy (ERT) with recombinant human arylsulfatase B (rhASB; rhN-acetylgalactosamine 4-sulfatase). Pulmonary function tests prior to and for up to 240 weeks of weekly infusions of rhASB at 1 mg/kg were completed in 56 patients during Phase 1/2, Phase 2, Phase 3 and Phase 3 Extension trials of rhASB and the Survey Study.
