Force in the Achilles Tendon During Walking With Ankle Foot Orthosis

Background Ankle foot orthoses are used for postoperative treatment of Achilles tendon ruptures and decrease calf muscle electromyography activity during walking. Hypothesis Achilles tendon load decreases with increased restriction of dorsiflexion and is associated with decreased triceps surae activity. Study Design Controlled laboratory study. Mid- to Long-Term Outcome of Cementless Total Hip Arthroplasty in Younger Patients

Purpose. To assess mid- to long-term outcomes of cementless primary total hip arthroplasty (THA) in younger patients. Methods. Records of 28 women and 34 men (75 hips) aged 18 to 55 (mean, 38) years who underwent primary THA using a hydroxyapatite-coated stem and a threaded cup and had been followed up for a mean of 10 (6–15) years were reviewed. 13 of the patients had bilateral THAs. Clinical and radiographic outcomes were evaluated. Results. After a minimum follow-up of 7 (range, 7–14) years, 12 (16%) of the hips were revised, of which 8 (11%) were for the cup. Effect of bike-fit in the perception of comfort, fatigue and pain

The aim of this study was to assess the influence of different bike positions on the perception of fatigue, pain and comfort. Twenty cyclists underwent three tests that involved cycling for 45 min at their individual 50% peak aerobic power output while adopting different positions on the bike. Participants performed the cycling tests adopting three positions defined by two parameters (knee flexion angle [20°, 30°, 40°] and trunk flexion angle [35°, 45°, 55°]) in random order. Objective: The aim of the current study was to compare pressures exerted on the lower limb by a high compression bandage as recorded by sub-bandage sensors and those estimated by Laplace's law. The correlation between pressures obtained in each anatomical zone and the corresponding limb perimeters were explored. Imaging photoplethysmography for clinical assessment of cutaneous microcirculation at two different depths

The feasibility of bispectral imaging photoplethysmography (iPPG) system for clinical assessment of cutaneous microcirculation at two different depths is proposed. The iPPG system has been developed and evaluated for in vivo conditions during various tests: (1) topical application of vasodilatory liniment on the skin, (2) skin local heating, (3) arterial occlusion, and (4) regional anesthesia. The device has been validated by the measurements of a laser Doppler imager (LDI) as a reference. Current cochlear implants can operate at high pulse rates. The effect of increasing pulse rate on speech performance is not yet clear. Habituation to low rates may affect the outcome. This paper presents the results of three subsequent studies using different experimental paradigms, applying the Nucleus CI24RE device, and conducted by ten European implant teams. Pulse rate per channel varied from 500 to 3500 pulses per second with ACE and from 1200 to 3500 pps with CIS strategy. The aim of this study was to reveal whether religiosity and trust in institutions are longitudinal predictors of change in fear of COVID-19 (FCV-19) across Poland, Germany, Slovenia, and Israel among young adults over a three-month period.
