Quality recognition as a prescriber against disinformation
2022
2022
This study aims to identify the typology and patterns of hoaxes related to health and nutrition disseminated during the first stage of the COVID-19 pandemic (March-November 2020). To do this, an exploratory quantitative study was carried out with two data types. The first data comes from studying 95 documents (scientific articles) found in the SCOPUS database through Boolean searches with the terms (dis)misinformation, hoax, health, and nutrition. A registration form was used for these documents, indicating the following items: a) topic of the article (health or nutrition); b) the type of wrong message (misinformation or hoax); c) the country in which the study was done; d) the type of part…
Media polarisation over independence for Catalonia. A comparative study of coverage in RT
2019
2022
Disinformation is a communicative phenomenon inevitably linked to current times. Since the terms 'fake news' were globally accepted to describe a communicative practice, especially since 2016, we have experienced various phases of social response, with successive movements of study, analysis and denunciation. The collective perception is having begun a stage, which appears to us as irreversible, where the Habermasian public sphere would take place mainly in social networks. The phenomenon is associated with a change in political communication, with campaigns that unapologetically adopt the practice of disorientation, sowing doubt in voters about democratic processes and their legitimacy, as…

Multimodal disinformation about otherness on the internet : the spread of racist, xenophobic and Islamophobic fake news in 2020
2021
This work studies the use of disinformation to construct an image of otherness through the internet. We applied a content analysis methodology to the 161 racist, xenophobic or Islamophobic fake news pieces that were discredited in 2020 by the four Spanish information verification media entities accredited by the International Fact-Checking Network: Maldita.es , Newtral , Efe Verifica and Verificat . The results show that the most commonly used formats were image and video, that disinformation was most often based on taking information out of context and deception, and that the source could not be identified. The most shared characteristics associated otherness with receiving aid, violence a…
