2012
A sustainable and sustaining planning strategy is globally important for metropolitan areas. Sustainable planning addresses the development of strategies to reduce the use of resources, increase economic efficiency and improve integration of social aspects (e.g. pedestrian-friendly environments, well-balanced public and private transport modes, efficient street networks, land use, movement economy; access for all to jobs, retail, services; healthcare, culture and leisure). In contrast, splinter development (e.g. urban sprawl) involves damage to nature and generation of an increasing volume of traffic (these are the main criticisms following a study by Newman and Kenworthy (1989) on the rela…
Newspapers on sustainable development - a postmodern business perspective
2009
The paper departs from an urge to understand the operating environment of business firms in the postmodern society. In identifying sustainable development as a key concept, we make use of daily newspapers to explore which values these attach to reporting on sustainable development. After identifying these norms of society, we argue that firms have taken on a role in people’s lives that former pertained to the religious, collective culture. Business organizations provide a sense of belonging in times when people look for new areas of selfidentification. This role has been accepted opportunistically and strategically in the business world. We thus identify a weak SD paradigm, which seems to i…
Rozwój miast metropolitalnych Polski w kontekście rozwoju zrównoważonego
2020

Is sustainable aligning with smartness in transport domain? – marketing perspective of smart city rankings
2022
Rising awareness of sustainable development challenges, along with the quest for optimization of the everyday functioning of the city, motivate many urban authorities to search for promising concepts and solutions. The soybean, protein and fat of four soya varieties (Glycine max (L.)Merrill) non-GMO (Augusta, Mavka, Aligator, Lissabon) were compared, using varying doses of N/ha (0, 30 and 60 kg). The cost effectiveness of the various fertilization doses was also determined. The soybean yields of the different soya varieties differed significantly, which indicates the exist…

The recent transformations in French agriculture and the emergence of the concept of sustainable development in the last decade have pushed politicians to defining new measures, of which most concern agriculture. The present paper is an attempt to integrate the concept of human rights into the mainstream tourism discourse. In the name of development, human rights are often neglected while there are definite long-term advantages to be gained by actively promoting it. The paper examines the human rights perspectives of the major stakeholder groups in tourism to finally arrive at a comprehensive picture. Implications of some of the general principles and proclaimed guidelines of human rights for tourism are discussed. It is concluded that sustainable development of tourism is not possible until human rights as a relevant category is recognized by all the stakeholders. In addition, a case study is provi…
