Benign — A typical nevi discrimination using diffuse reflectance and fluorescence multispectral imaging system

Early diagnostics of skin cancer is of interest for dermatologists. Atypical nevi are not considered to be malignant, but are suspects that should be detected and monitored over time. The multispectral imaging system Nuance operating in spectral range 450–950 nm was adapted for clinical in vivo measurements in diffuse reflectance and fluorescence mode. Mean and standard deviation values of optical density and fluorescence intensity were extracted from segmented pigmented lesions (21 benign and 26 atypical nevi) and used for further analysis. Abstract Introduction: This paper aimed to analyse the predictive ability of a self-determination theory (SDT) based model describing competitive sport dropout, and variance as a function of age and gender. Variables included in the model were: psychological need satisfaction, self-determined motivation, perceived conflict between sport and study, intention to practise sport, and dropout. Observation of light-by-light scattering in ultraperipheral Pb+Pb collisions with the ATLAS detector

This Letter describes the observation of the light-by-light scattering process, γγ→γγ, in Pb+Pb collisions at √sNN=5.02  TeV. The analysis is conducted using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.73  nb−1, collected in November 2018 by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC. Light-by-light scattering candidates are selected in events with two photons produced exclusively, each with transverse energy EγT>3  GeV and pseudorapidity |ηγ|<2.4, diphoton invariant mass above 6 GeV, and small diphoton transverse momentum and acoplanarity. Jet-cooled FTIR spectroscopy and analysis of the C–O stretch fundamental of Ni(CO)4

Rovibrational spectra of the C–O stretch band (ν5) of Ni(CO)4 have been recorded at 0.006 cm− 1 resolution by coupling a low pressure continuous supersonic jet with a high resolution interferometer. The spectrum has been analysed thanks to the STDS software (see http://icb.u-bourgogne.fr/OMR/SMA/SHTDS/) that implements the tensorial formalism developed in the Dijon group for tetrahedral molecules. We obtain a very satisfying simulation thanks to an effective Hamiltonian expanded up to order 3. The asymmetry of the high-J lines is due to a small tetrahedral splitting and is well reproduced. APOGEE Data Releases 13 and 14: Stellar Parameter and Abundance Comparisons with Independent Analyses

Data from the SDSS-IV / Apache Point Observatory Galactic Evolution Experiment (APOGEE-2) have been released as part of SDSS Data Releases 13 (DR13) and 14 (DR14). These include high resolution H-band spectra, radial velocities, and derived stellar parameters and abundances. DR13, released in August 2016, contained APOGEE data for roughly 150,000 stars, and DR14, released in August 2017, added about 110,000 more. Stellar parameters and abundances have been derived with an automated pipeline, the APOGEE Stellar Parameter and Chemical Abundance Pipeline (ASPCAP). New measurements and global analysis of chloromethane in the region from 0 to 1800cm−1

Abstract New high resolution Fourier transform spectra of pure 12CH335Cl and 12CH337Cl isotopomers of chloromethane have been recorded in Wuppertal covering the region from 600 to 3800 cm−1. New rotational transitions within the v2=1, v5=1, and v3=2 states have been measured at Lille. A first global analysis of the lower four band systems of the molecule (700–1800 cm−1) is reported. The model was based on an effective Hamiltonian and dipole moment expressed in terms of irreducible tensor operators. First Observation ofD0−D¯0Oscillations inD0→K+π−π+π−Decays and Measurement of the Associated Coherence Parameters

Charm meson oscillations are observed in a time-dependent analysis of the ratio of D0→K+π−π+π− to D0→K−π+π−π+ decay rates, using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0fb−1 recorded by the LHCb experiment. The measurements presented are sensitive to the phase-space averaged ratio of doubly Cabibbo-suppressed to Cabibbo-favoured amplitudes rK3πD and the product of the coherence factor RK3πD and a charm mixing parameter y′K3π. The constraints measured are rK3πD=(5.67±0.12)×10−2, which is the most precise determination to date, and RK3πD⋅y′K3π=(0.3±1.8)×10−3, which provides useful input for determinations of the CP-violating phase γ in B±→DK±,D→K∓π±π∓π± decays. From correlation-consistent to polarization-consistent basis sets estimation of NMR spin–spin coupling constant in the B3LYP Kohn–Sham basis set limit

Abstract Based on B3LYP spin–spin coupling constants (SSCC) of several molecules calculated with cc-pV x Z, cc-pCV x Z, cc-pCV x Z-sd and cc-pCV x Z-sd+ t basis sets, a reasonably fit, using the two-parameter formula, to the Kohn–Sham complete basis set limit (CBS) is shown. Improvement in the CBS values going from cc-pV x Z to the most elaborated cc-pCV x Z-sd+ t basis set family is observed: standard deviation for all data drops from 33.7 to 23.1, and from 6.0 to 4.8 Hz after excluding problematic 1 J (F,H) and 1 J (F,C). Calculation of water’s 1 J (OH) using B3LYP/cc-pCV x Z and B3LYP/pcJ- n significantly improved the FC term convergence.

Modification of the Bloch law in ferromagnetic nanostructures

The temperature dependence of magnetization in ferromagnetic nanostructures (e.g., nanoparticles or nanoclusters) is usually analyzed by means of an empirical extension of the Bloch law sufficiently flexible for a good fitting to the observed data and indicates a strong softening of magnetic coupling compared to the bulk material. We analytically derive a microscopic generalization of the Bloch law for the Heisenberg spin model which takes into account the effects of size, shape and various surface boundary conditions.
