Effect of traditional, microwave and industrial cooking on inositol phosphate content in beans, chickpeas and lentils

2003

An high-performance liquid chromatography method for determining inositol phosphate fractions was adapted to legumes. The validity of the method was assessed by estimating the following analytical parameters: linearity (linear response between 125 and 5000 microg inositol hexaphosphate (IP(6))/ml); instrumental precision and method precision (relative standard deviation, %) were 1.9% (IP(6)) for instrumental, and 2.5% (IP(6)) and 8.2% (IP(5)) for method precision. An accuracy was estimated by percentage recovery (72 +/- 3%). The application of this method to raw, conventional, microwave-cooked and ready-to-eat beans, chickpeas and lentils gave IP(6) contents ranging from 0.63 g/100 g dry ma…

2-(3,5-Dimethyl-1H-pyrazol-1-yl)-2-hy-droxy-imino-N'-[1-(pyridin-2-yl)ethyl-idene]acetohydrazide.

2012

In the title compound, C14H16N6O2, the dihedral angles formed by the mean plane of the acetohydrazide group [maximum deviation 0.0629 (12) A] with the pyrazole and pyridine rings are 81.62 (6) and 38.38 (4)° respectively. In the crystal, molecules are connected by N—H⋯O and O—H⋯N hydrogen bonds into supramolecular chains extending parallel to the c-axis direction.

A posteriori error identities for nonlinear variational problems

2015

A posteriori error estimation methods are usually developed in the context of upper and lower bounds of errors. In this paper, we are concerned with a posteriori analysis in terms of identities, i.e., we deduce error relations, which holds as equalities. We discuss a general form of error identities for a wide class of convex variational problems. The left hand sides of these identities can be considered as certain measures of errors (expressed in terms of primal/dual solutions and respective approximations) while the right hand sides contain only known approximations. Finally, we consider several examples and show that in some simple cases these identities lead to generalized forms of the …

Memory‐type control charts for censored reliability data

2023

Control charts are commonly used to monitor a process to detect undesirable changes. The main goal of this work is to propose exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) and cumulative sum (CUSUM) control charts to track a process by utilizing type-I censored generalized exponential (GE) distributed data. In particular, the censored data are replaced with the conditional expected value (CEV). A comparison between CUSUM and CUSUM ignoring unobserved covariates (CUSUM-IUC) charts is also a part of this study. The GE distribution is considered due to its application in reliability analysis. The performance of the charts is evaluated by using the average run length along with the standard devi…

Characterizing Cavities in Model Inclusion Fullerenes: A Comparative Study

2001

Abstract: The fullerene-82 cavity is selected as a model system in order to test several methods for characterizing inclusion molecules. The methods are based on different technical foundations such as a square and triangular tessellation of the molecular surface, spherical tessellation of the molecular surface, numerical integration of the atomic volumes and surfaces, triangular tessellation of the molecular surface, and cubic lattice approach to the molecular volume. Accurate measures of the molecular volume and surface area have been performed with the pseudorandom Monte Carlo (MCVS) and uniform Monte Carlo (UMCVS) methods. These calculations serve as a reference for the rest of the meth…

<title>Additional usage possibilities for the computerized Hess screen</title>

2003

The purpose of the study was to work out a method how to use the computerized Hess screen in proximal vergence measurements. Proximal vergence or vergence due to knowledge of nearness is one of four independent components making up the total vergence response. Proximal vergence is expressed as a ratio - proximal convergence/test distance (PC/T). The computerized Hess screen is usually used to detect and to measure an ocular misalignment in patients with paralytic strabismus in different directions of gaze. The computerized Hess screen can be used to assess PC/T ratio in different directions of gaze, providing the open-loop disparity vergence and accommodation systems and assuming that tonic…

Forward logistic regression for earth-flow landslide susceptibility assessment in the Platani river basin (southern Sicily, Italy)

2013

Forward logistic regression has allowed us to derive an earth-flow susceptibility model for the Tumarrano river basin, which was defined by modeling the statistical relationships between an archive of 760 events and a set of 20 predictors. For each landslide in the inventory, a landslide identification point (LIP) was automatically produced as corresponding to the highest point along the boundary of the landslide polygons, and unstable conditions were assigned to cells at a distance up to 8 m. An equal number of stable cells (out of landslides) was then randomly extracted and appended to the LIPs to prepare the dataset for logistic regression. A model building strategy was applied to enlarg…

Measurement of the Fluctuations in the Number of Muons in Extensive Air Showers with the Pierre Auger Observatory

2021

The successful installation, commissioning, and operation of the Pierre Auger Observatory would not have been possible without the strong commitment and effort from the technical and administrative staff in Malargue. We are very grateful to the following agencies and organizations for financial support: Argentina-Comision Nacional de Energia Atomica, Agencia Nacional de Promocion Cientifica y Tecnologica (ANPCyT), Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Cientificas y Tecnicas (CONICET), Gobierno de la Provincia de Mendoza, Municipalidad de Malargue, NDM Holdings and Valle Las Lenas; in gratitude for their continuing cooperation over land access; Australia-the Australian Research Council; Brazil…
