Synthesis and characterisation of novel chemical conjugates based on alpha, beta-polyaspartylhydrazide and beta-cyclodextrins

2006

A new family of supramolecular systems based on a synthetic polyaminoacid and cyclic oligosaccharides such as beta-cyclodextrins (beta-CDs) was synthesised. The pharmaceutical potential of these systems arises from the proper combination between the complexing properties of cyclodextrins and the particular pharmacokinetic profile that can be obtained by using macromolecular conjugates with a biocompatible backbone. Five supramolecular conjugates were synthesised by using alpha,beta-polyaspartylhydrazide (PAHy) as a polymeric component and various amounts of two P-CD derivatives. In particular, by reaction of PAHy with beta-CD monoaldehyde, samples named as A(1), A(2) and A(3), bearing, resp…

Oxidative oligomerization of cyclodextrin-complexed bifunctional phenols catalyzed by horseradish peroxidase in water

2000

The HRP-catalyzed oligomerization of hydrophobic bifunctional phenols in water was realized by the use of 2,6-di-O-methylated β-cyclodextrin. The molecular weights of the resulting oligomers were in the same region as they were reached by conventional HRP-catalyzed oligomerizations in water/dioxane-mixtures. The polymerizable moieties, maleimide and methacrylamide, were not affected during the oligomerization process, as proofed by NMR, MALDI-TOF and FT-IR measurements. It was therefore possible to get soluble functionalized oligomers, which were crosslinked via radical copolymerization with suitable components (styrene, MMA) or heating.

Effect of pH Variations on the Properties of Cyclodextrin‐Calixarene Nanosponges

2019

The pH-responsive properties of cyclodextrin-calixarene nanosponge co-polymeric materials have been investigated. In particular, ISE-H+ potentiometric titrations were carried out in order to evaluate the acid-base properties and the actual amount of ionizable sites present in the materials. Moreover, the relevant pH-dependent adsorption abilities were evaluated towards a set of selected model organic pollutant molecules by means of adsorption tests and by studying the corresponding adsorption isotherms. The latter ones could be suitably described by means of the Freundlich model. The whole of the experimental results enabled us to clarify some general aspects of the microscopic behavior of …

Cyclodextrins in Polymer Synthesis: Enantiodiscrimination in Free-Radical Polymerization of Cyclodextrin-Complexed Racemic N -Methacryloyl-D,L -pheny…

2003

The enantiodiscriminating polymerization of racemic cyclodextrin-complexed N-methacryloylphenylalanine methyl ester is investigated 1 H NMR spectra of the complexes with methylated β-cyclodextrin in D 2 O manifest splittings due to chiral recognition. The different stabilities of the diastereomeric complexes influence the kinetics of the homopolymerization, particularly at 0°C. An enrichment of the residual N-methacryloyl-L-phenylalanine methyl ester of 14% was achieved after 21 h of polymerization.

Fundamentals and Applications of Cyclodextrins

2018

Cyclodextrins are natural oligosaccharides obtained from starch. They were discovered in 1891 by Villiers, and attracted major scientific and industrial interests from the late 1970s. Actually, cyclodextrins are among the most remarkable macrocyclic molecules with major theoretical and practical interest for chemistry and biology. Cyclodextrins belong to the family of cage molecules due to their structure, which is composed of a hydrophobic cavity that can encapsulate other molecules. Indeed, the most characteristic feature of cyclodextrins is their ability to form inclusion complexes with various molecules through host-guest interactions. Cyclodextrins and their derivatives have a wide var…

Study of silica-structured materials as sorbents for organophosphorus pesticides determination in environmental water samples

2018

Abstract A novel sorbent based on a UVM-7 mesoporous silica doped with Ti has been synthesized and used for solid-phase extraction of several organophosphorus pesticides in environmental water samples followed by gas chromatography coupled to a nitrogen-phosphorus selective detector. Thus, mesoporous silica materials doped with Ti and Fe as well as immobilized cyclodextrin silica-based supports were prepared and morphologically characterized by several techniques such as transmission electronic microscopy, nitrogen adsorption-desorption and X-ray diffraction. These sorbents were comparatively evaluated, and Ti25-UVM-7 material was selected as the best solid phase. After optimization of extr…

Complexation of phosphine ligands with peracetylated β-cyclodextrin in supercritical carbon dioxide: spectroscopic determination of equilibrium const…

2007

The interaction between peracetylated beta-cyclodextrin and several triphenyl phosphine derivatives was studied in supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2) by UV-visible spectroscopy. The equilibrium constant for a 1:1 complexation reaction was obtained from titration spectra and calculated using two established mathematical models. The values of the equilibrium constants are 1-3 orders of magnitude smaller than those obtained in aqueous solution with analogous phosphines. This is likely due to the absence in scCO2 of the hydrophobic effect, which is replaced by a corresponding, but weaker, CO2-phobic effect. The largest value of Kf was found for complexes of diphenyl(4-adamantylphenyl)phosphin…

Cyclodextrin–calixarene co-polymers as a new class of nanosponges

2014

Hyper-reticulated co-polymers jointly formed by cyclodextrin and calixarene units, which can be considered as a new class of nanosponges, were easily obtained by means of a click chemistry approach. In particular, we succeeded in preparing our materials by exploiting the copper-catalyzed 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition (CuAAC) reaction between heptakis-(6-deoxy)-(6-azido)-beta-cyclodextrin and (5,11,17,23-tetra-tert-butyl)-(25,26,27,28-tetra-propargyloxy)-calix-[4]-arene, mixed in different proportions. These materials were fully characterized by means of combined FT-IR, thermogravimetric, C-13 {H-1} CP-MAS NMR and nitrogen adsorption/desorption techniques. In particular, C-13 {H-1} CP-MAS spectr…
