AbstractThis article studies the formal variation of the existential quantifiers u/un (‘one; a, an’), algú/algun (‘someone; some’), ningú/ningun (‘no one, anyone; any’) and the distributive universal quantifier cada u/cada un (‘everyone’) in Catalan. The research is based on an extensive diachronic corpus of texts written between the 15th and 20th centuries. The author classifies the syntactic structures of these quantifiers and analyses their meaning and formal vacillations: apocopated form (without ‑n) vs. non-apocopated form (with ‑n). This PhD thesis examines Italian contemporary literary works (novels and short stories) in which dialect is used as a linguistic variety in combination with the national Italian idiom. The analysis is conducted through the works of four Italian writers, in which multilingualism is particularly significant: Andrea Camilleri, Salvatore Niffoi, Laura Pariani and Andrej Longo. Tämä tutkielma käsittelee amerikanenglannin murteita Yhdysvaltojen eteläisissä osavaltioissa. Tutkielma käsittelee pääasiassa sitä, millä tavalla yliopisto-opiskelijat reagoivat Amerikan Etelävaltioissa puhuttavaan englantiin. Tämän lisäksi tutkielmassa esitellään eteläisten osavaltioiden murrealueen yleisimmät erityispiirteet, esimerkiksi erilaiset tavat lausua sanoja verrattuna standardiin amerikanenglantiin.
