This project was conducted while Ernesto Mesa-Vázquez was visiting Universidad Loyola Andalucia. He wants to particularly thank Pablo Brañas-Garza and Diego Jorrat for continued guidance and assessment with the experimental design. Álvaro Núñez-Bermúdez and the faculty members of the Economics and Business Sciences department at the University of Seville were very helpful in providing assistance for running the experiment. Reply to Côté and Willer: New replication attempts provide no evidence that inequality moderates the effect of income on generosity

2020

Cote et al. (1) provided evidence that economic inequality moderates the effect of income on generosity. In their study, individuals with higher household income were less generous in a dictator game than poorer individuals only if they resided in a US state with comparatively large economic inequality. We questioned this finding because we did not find any evidence for the postulated moderation effect of economic inequality across three studies (ref. 2; for similar replication failures see ref. 3). However, our studies were conceptual rather than direct replications as we used different measures of generosity (charitable donations, behavior in a trust game, and volunteering) and also inclu…

Testing the Trust Game with undergraduates: An experiment with wealth heterogeneity

2017

Ponència presentada a 3rd International Conference on Higher Education Advances, HEAd’17, Universitat Politècnica de València, València, 2017 Trust, reciprocity and a fair distribution of resources are cruzial in the sustainability of any economic system. As a matter of fact, those are values that should be promoted among the new generations, especially among university students enrolled in degrees that are related to economics. Under this context, we are interested in enhancing criticism and active reflection among undergraduates with respect to social values. With such a goal in mind, we designed a two step classroom task that includes playing the Trust Game (TG) in the first place and, s…

2015

This paper analyzes the role played by the student movement in the restitution of democracy in Spain. Taking as a starting point the situation of university under the Franco dictatorship, and how (and why) students were dealt with, the major features that set the student movement apart from other kinds of activism in that time are described and linked to the unique effects that it had on the status quo, with a special stress on its ability to generate the kind of cultural change required for overcoming the atmosphere of resignation and consent that helped to keep the government in power. The way in which culture, personal issues, and politics got intertwined is shown as a key trait of stude…

To Rule the City. Valencia City Council from Dictatorship to Democracy. A case study (1969-1979)

2013

To contribute to the debate on the process of transition to democracy, this research aims at the analysis of the City Counciland Transit tardofranquismo since the death of dictator Francisco Franco until the first democratic elections. Franco Municipalities strongly marked by the figure of the mayor, president of the corporation and visible head of the power of the dictatorship in the municipality, have been little studied by historians, partly because of the transitional political model prevailing until recent years. This requires rebuild historiographical vacuum, first, a state of affairs that we analyzed but also indicated gaps. Second, we draw the overall picture of the two largest muni…
