Mature teratoma of the uterine corpus with thyroid differentiation

A case of a clinically silent mature teratoma of the uterine corpus is reported. A 55-year-old woman presented with multiple uterine leiomyomas. The discovery was incidental, because the patient was asymptomatic. Macroscopically, a colloid-hemorrhagic-looking nodule was present. Histologic and immunohistochemical studies showed that this tumor was a small thyroid mass. Key words:,

AbstractUsing a data mining approach for the discovery of new targets for antibody therapy of colon cancer, we identified MS4A12, a sequence homologue of CD20. We show that MS4A12 is a cell surface protein. Expression analysis and immunohistochemistry revealed MS4A12 to be a colonic epithelial cell lineage gene confined to the apical membrane of colonocytes with strict transcriptional repression in all other normal tissue types. Expression is maintained upon malignant transformation in 63% of colon cancers. Ca2+ flux analyses disclosed that MS4A12 is a novel component of store-operated Ca2+ entry in intestinal cells. The clonal rat rhabdomyosarcoma cell line BA-HAN-1C was tested for its susceptibility to differentiation induction with different polar compounds. This cell line is composed of proliferating mononuclear tumour cells, some of which spontaneously fuse to form terminally differentiated postmitotic myotube-like giant cells. Exposure of BA-HAN-1C cells to dimethylsulphoxide (DMSO), hexamethylene bisacetamide (HMBA), sodium butyrate (NaBut) and N-monomethylformamide (NMF) resulted in a significant inhibition of proliferation (P less than 0.001) and in a simultaneous increase in differentiation. Abstract Analyzing the DNA methylome of multiple myeloma (MM), a plasma cell neoplasm, by whole-genome bisulfite sequencing and high-density arrays, we observed regional DNA hypermethylation embedded in extensive global hypomethylation. In contrast to the widely reported DNA hypermethylation of promoter-associated CpG islands (CGIs) in cancer, hypermethylated sites in MM as compared to normal plasma cells were located outside CpG islands and were unexpectedly associated with intronic enhancer regions active in normal B cells. Alternative splicing is widely used to generate protein diversity and to control gene expression in many biological processes, including cell fate determination and apoptosis. In this review, we focus on the Muscleblind family of tissue-specific alternative splicing regulators. Muscleblind proteins bind pre-mRNA through an evolutionarily conserved tandem CCCH zinc finger domain.
