The LIESST state of [Fe(pic)3]Cl2.EtOH – the superstructure under continuous irradiation

The superstructure recently discovered in [Fe(pic)3]Cl2.EtOH at temperatures inside the step region of the high-spin–low-spin transition curve sheds new light on the anomalous transition behaviour in spin crossover compounds. The structure of the metastable LIESST state of [Fe(pic)3]Cl2.EtOH at 10 K has been measured. The decay has been followed by X-ray diffraction using a CCD camera in order to detect reflections of the superstructure building up during the decay. No signal above the noise of the CCD camera was observed, so that even diffuse scattering could not be detected. Abstract High-quality fully relaxed CdO layers have been grown directly on r -plane sapphire by metalorganic vapor-phase epitaxy. The crystalline structure has been analyzed by high-resolution X-ray diffraction. The structural quality of the (0 0 1) oriented layers degrades as the growth temperature decreases, process which is accompanied by the appearance of pyramidal grains as revealed by scanning force microscopy. A joint transform correlator may suffer from overlapping of the zero diffraction order of the output, which does not contain relevant information, and the correlation peaks that appear in the first diffraction orders if objects are not sufficiently separated. Such overlapping significantly reduces the signal-to-noise ratio of the identification process. We propose a novel approach based on code division multiplexing technique in which the contrast of the identification peaks is significantly enhanced. Transverse resolution improvement using rotating-grating time-multiplexing approach

The ability to improve the limited resolving power of optical imaging systems while approaching the theoretical diffraction limit has been an attractive discipline with growing interest over the last years due to its benefits in many applied optics systems. This paper presents a new approach to achieve transverse superresolution in far-field imaging systems, with direct application in both digital microscopy and digital holographic microscopy. Theoretical analysis and computer simulations show the validity of the presented approach.

Domain shapes and monolayer structures of triple-chain phospholipids on water

Two triple-chain phospholipid isomers were investigated at the air-water interface by means of fluorescence microscopy and grazing incidence X-ray diffraction (GID). The two lipids differ only in the position of the branched chain at the glycerol backbone. Fluorescence microscopy shows different domain sharp-edged domains. In the case of dendritic domains the chains are more tilted, the deviation from hexagonal symmetry is more pronounced and hence the lattice anisotropy is larger.

Structural Characterization of Aurophilic Gold(I) Iodide under High Pressure

[EN] The effects of pressure on the crystal structure of aurophilic tetragonal gold iodide have been studied by means of powder X-ray diffraction up to 13.5 GPa. We found evidence of the onset of a phase transition at 1.5 GPa that is more significant from 3.8 GPa. The low- and high-pressure phases coexist up to 10.7 GPa. Beyond 10.7 GPa, an irreversible process of amorphization takes place. We determined the axial and bulk compressibility of the ambient-pressure tetragonal phase of gold iodide up to 3.3 GPa. Perfluoro-1,1′-biphenyl and perfluoronaphthalene and their derivatives as π-acceptors for anions

Addition of anions to perfluorinated 1,1′-biphenyl 1 or naphthalene 2 results in a shift of the 19F NMR signals. However, any specific interaction cannot be assigned to this effect. In order to study the interaction in more detail, the salt derivatives 3 and 4 were prepared and studied by single crystal X-ray diffraction revealing weak anion–π interactions in the solid state.
