Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a chronic and relapsing disorder with significant medical, social and financial impacts. IBD patients require continuous follow-up, and healthcare resource use in this context increases over time. Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), which includes ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn’s disease (CD), is a chronic and relapsing disorder characterized by inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract. The natural progression includes periods of flares and remission, requiring continuous and personalized follow-up to achieve long remission and minimize short and long term damage. Long-term outcome after urinary diversion using the ileocecal segment in children and adolescents: Complications of the efferent segment.

Long-term outcomes are of special concern in children after urinary diversion. In a single institution study we evaluated retrospectively the long-term outcomes of urinary diversion in children, in whom the ileocecal segment had been used, in respect to complications of the efferent segment.The Mainz pouch was used in 107 children for continent urinary diversion. Indications were neurogenic bladder (53%, 57/107), exstrophy-epispadias complex (25%, 27/107), malignancy (13%, 14/107), and others (9%, 9/107). Treatment of chronic hepatitis C in hemodialysis patients

Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is especially problematic in patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) who are undergoing hemodialysis. Rates of HCV infection are higher among hemodialysis patients than in the general population, and several routes of transmission are thought to stem from the dialysis unit. Management of chronic hepatitis C is also more complicated in hemodialysis patients because of altered pharmacokinetics and a predisposition for drug-related toxicity, particularly ribavirin-induced anemia. Chemosensory signalling pathways involved in sensing of amino acids by the ghrelin cell

AbstractTaste receptors on enteroendocrine cells sense nutrients and transmit signals that control gut hormone release. This study aimed to investigate the amino acid (AA) sensing mechanisms of the ghrelin cell in a gastric ghrelinoma cell line, tissue segments and mice. Peptone and specific classes of amino acids stimulate ghrelin secretion in the ghrelinoma cell line. Sensing of L-Phe occurs via the CaSR, monosodium glutamate via the TAS1R1-TAS1R3 while L-Ala and peptone act via 2 different amino acid taste receptors: CaSR & TAS1R1-TAS1R3 and CaSR & GPRC6A, respectively. Regulation by oestrogens of tachykinin NK3 receptor expression in the rat uterus.

The expression of the tachykinin NK3 receptor and its regulation by ovarian steroids were analyzed by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) in uteri from ovariectomized rats. A single transcript corresponding to the 325-bp product expected for the tachykinin NK3 receptor was detected in uteri from olive oil-treated (control) ovariectomized rats. The level of tachykinin NK3 receptor mRNA in progesterone-treated animals was similar to that observed in uteri from control ones. Disordered eating occurs on a continuum from dieting and restrictive eating, abnormal eating behavior, and finally clinical eating disorders. Lipid Activates mTORC1 and mTORC2 in the Absorption of Dietary Triglycerides

Mechanistic target of rapamycin (mTOR) senses amino acids; however, its role in lipid metabolism is less established. Organismal lipid requirements are largely met through dietary intake. How nutrient sensing mechanisms in gut interface with dietary fat remains unclear. Here we reveal fundamental and cooperative roles for mTOR complexes 1 and 2 (mTORC1/2) in absorption of dietary triglycerides. Dietary lipid activates mTORC1/2 signaling in gut.
