3D reconstruction of the hemocyanin subunit dimer from the chiton Acanthochiton fascicularis.

2004

Procedures are presented for the purification of the subunit dimer from Acanthochiton fasicularis hemocyanin. Electron microscopy of negatively stained specimens revealed a uniform population of macromolecules possessing the characteristic "boat shape". A 3D reconstruction from this EM data generated a approximately 3 nm resolution model that correlates well with earlier data of the purported subunit dimer, extracted from the 3D reconstruction of the didecamer of Haliotis tuberculata hemocyanin type 1.

Synthesis and spectroscopic characterization of organotin derivatives ofN-benzoylglycylglycine

1991

Di- and tri-organotin derivatives of N-benzoylglycylglycine (HBzGlyGly) were synthesized and characterized by infrared, 1H, 13C NMR and 119Sn Mossbauer spectroscopy. Diorganotin derivatives appear to be dimer distannoxanes ([R2SnBzGlyGly]2O)2 (R = CH3, n-C4H9, n-C8H17) with a ladder-type structure where tin atoms are five-coordinated and N-benzoylglycylglycine alternatively acts as a unidentate or bridging bidentate ligand through the carboxylate group. For triorganotin derivatives R3SnBzGlyGly (R= CH3, n-C4Hg) we propose a polymeric structure where N-benzoylglycylglycine bridges planar SnC3 units through the carboxylate group.

Conical nanopores highlight the pro-aggregating effects of pyrimethanil fungicide on Aβ(1-42) peptides and dimeric splitting phenomena.

2022

International audience; The Aβ(1-42) aggregation is a key event in the physiopathology of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Exogenous factors such as environmental pollutants, and more particularly pesticides, can corrupt Aβ(1-42) assembly and could influence the occurrence and pathophysiology of AD. However, pesticide involvement in the early stages of Aβ(1-42) aggregation is still unknown. Here, we employed conical track-etched nanopore in order to analyse the Aβ(1-42) fibril formation in the presence of pyrimethanil, a widely used fungicide belonging to the anilinopyrimidine class. Our results evidenced a pro-aggregating effect of pyrimethanil on Aβ(1-42). Aβ(1-42) assemblies were successfully d…

Specific detection of cyclobutane pyrimidine dimers in phytoplankton DNA by a non-radioactive assay based on T4-endonuclease V digestion.

2001

The effect of artificial and natural UV irradiation on DNA in marine phytoplankton Isochrysis galbana monoculture was investigated. The presence of cyclobutane pyrimidine dimers (CPDs) in unlabelled I. galbana DNA was detected by a non-radiometric alkaline filter elution assay after T4-endonuclease V digestion. The quantity of CPDs was estimated by alkaline agarose gel electrophoresis. Precise determination of the amount of DNA in the presence of I. galbana pigments was achieved by oxazole yellow homodimer (YOYO) dye. T4-endonuclease V-sensitive sites frequency (ESS/kb), measured after exposure to 2-40 kJ m(-2) of artificial UV light, increased in a dose-dependent manner. Twelve hours after…

Spectroscopic studies of 5,5′-dimethoxy-3,3,′-disulfobutyl-9-ethylthiacarbocyanine (DDTC) in solutions and immobilized in sol-gel matrices

1998

Abstract Absorption spectra of 5,5′-dimethoxy-3,3,′-disulfobutyl-9-ethylthiacarbocyanine (DDTC) in aqueous solutions and immobilized in xerogels prepared by the sol-gel method were obtained. Influence of pH, detergent (Triton X-100), ethanol addition and sol-gel preparation method on the dye aggregation equilibria and its photostability were investigated. In liquid solutions lowering of pH, as well as addition of the detergent, shift the aggregation equilibrium towards the DDTC monomeric form. However, while more acidic conditions result in a decrease of the dye stability, addition of the detergent has a slightly stabilizing effect on the dye. However, addition of ethanol drastically reduce…

[N⋅⋅⋅I+⋅⋅⋅N] Halogen-Bonded Dimeric Capsules from Tetrakis(3-pyridyl)ethylene Cavitands

2016

Two [N⋅⋅⋅I+⋅⋅⋅N] halogen-bonded dimeric capsules using tetrakis(3-pyridyl)ethylene cavitands with different lower rim alkyl chains are synthesized and analyzed in solution and the gas phase. These first examples of symmetrical dimeric capsules making use of the iodonium ion (I+) as the main connecting module are characterized by 1H NMR spectroscopy, diffusion ordered NMR spectroscopy (DOSY), electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS), and ion mobility-mass spectrometry (TW-IMS) experiments. The synthesis and effective halogen-bonded dimerization proceeds through analogous dimeric capsules with [N⋅⋅⋅Ag+⋅⋅⋅N] binding motifs as the intermediates as evidenced by the X-ray structures of …

2-(N,N-Diethylaminomethyl)-6,7-trihydroquinolinyl-8-ylideneamine-Ni(ii) chlorides: application in ethylene dimerization and trimerization

2020

A series of Ni(II) complexes with the general formula [2-((NEt2)Me)-8-{N(Ar)}C9H8N]NiCl2, where Ar = 2,6-Me2C6H3 in Ni1, 2,6-Et2C6H3 in Ni2, 2,6-i-Pr2C6H3 in Ni3, 2,4,6-Me3C6H2 in Ni4, 2,6-Et2-4-MeC6H2 in Ni5, and 2,4,6-t-Bu3C6H2 in Ni6, has been prepared using a one-pot reaction of 2-(N,N-diethylaminomethyl)-6,7-dihydroquinolin-8(5H)-one with the corresponding aniline and nickel dichloride hexahydrate. The resultant complexes were characterized using elemental analysis and FT-IR spectroscopy, while the mononuclear Ni1 and Ni3 were also the subject of single-crystal X-ray diffraction study. On activation with MMAO, the complexes Ni1–Ni6 displayed good activity in ethylene oligomerization, f…

Formation of As8 dimers in molecular solid-state arsenic

1997

Abstract Molecular yellow arsenic (y-As) consists of tetrahedral As 4 molecules that may be packed in various ways. All y-As modifications, both disordered and crystalline, are metastable and undergo irreversible transitions (polymerization) under action of heat and light, which cause a change in the nature of bonding in the molecules. Polymerization of y-As leads to the formation of amorphous arsenic (a-As) possessing a continuous random network structure. DTA studies show that polymerization is an activated exothermic process. The value of its enthalpy agrees satisfactorily with an estimate of the excess energy of strained ‘banana-shaped’ bonds in an As 4 molecule. Quantum chemical calcul…
