Complex responses of global insect pests to climate change

AbstractInsect pests strongly affect the productivity and profitability of agriculture and forestry. Despite the well-known sensitivity of insects to abiotic effects such as temperature, their potential responses to ongoing climate change remain unclear. Here we compile and review documented climate change responses of 31 of the globally most impactful phytophagous insect pests, focussing on species for which long-term, high-quality data are available. Aims: To present the first syntaxonomical classification for the mesophilous deciduous forests of the PamirAlai Mountains in Tajikistan with some remarks on its environmental gradients. ABSTRACT An outbreak of hospital-acquired Acinetobacter baumannii infections, caused by a bla OXA-23 -positive carbapenem-resistant strain belonging to international clone II/ST2, was detected in Latvia. The strain was partially equipped with the armA gene and the intI1-aacA4-catB8-aadA1-qacE Δ 1 class 1 integron. In addition, the strain carried AbaR25, a novel AbaR4-like resistance island of ∼46,500 bp containing structures similar to the previously described AbaR22 and Tn 6167 islands. AbaR25 was characterized by the occurrence of a second copy of Tn 6022a interrupted by Tn 2006 carrying the bla OXA-23 gene.

Acoustic monitoring of the artificial airway — experimental results

Non-invasive acoustic airway-monitoring was evaluated in an experimental study. Recording amplitude and travel time of acoustic pulse response, an acoustic pattern of airway's geometry was then calculated. Measurements on models and excised human cadaver lungs were performed to discover whether displacement or obstruction of the artificial airway could be detected by its acoustic equivalent. Distraction of goal-oriented performance by a sudden change in the auditory environment is an everyday life experience. Different types of changes can be distracting, including a sudden onset of a transient sound and a slight deviation of otherwise regular auditory background stimulation. With regard to deviance detection, it is assumed that slight changes in a continuous sequence of auditory stimuli are detected by a predictive coding mechanisms and it has been demonstrated that this mechanism is capable of distracting ongoing task performance. Abstract Background To investigate the influence of change on sense of coherence (SOC) on dental services use in adolescents over a two-year period. Methods A prospective follow-up study was conducted involving 334 12-year-old adolescents from public schools in the city of Manaus, Amazonas, Brazil. Assisting relapse prevention in OCD using a novel mobile app-based intervention: A case report.

Mobile health apps increase the accessibility of cognitive-behavioral–based interventions before, during, or following treatment. GGOC is a mobile app designed to challenge maladaptive beliefs in obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). This single-case study assesses the usefulness of GGOC as a relapse prevention tool for OCD. The patient was a 26-year-old woman with severe contamination and washing/cleaning OCD symptoms (Y-BOCS = 33). GGOC was used for relapse prevention following CBT treatment.
