2022
Objective This study aimed to explore risk estimations (perceived risk, dispositional optimism) related to COVID-19 perception and distress in oncologic outpatients undergoing active hospital treatments compared to the general population. Design and Main Outcome Measures Data were collected during the Italian lockdown on 150 oncologic outpatients and a sample of 150 healthy subjects. They completed a battery of questionnaires including the Perceived Risk scale, the Brief Illness Perception Questionnaire, the Life Orientation Test- Revised and the Patient Health Questionnaire-4. Descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and a moderated mediation model were performed to test the study hyp…
Afectación emocional en pacientes críticos: Factores de riesgo y de protección
2020
Despite the importance of patients’ psychological well-being in their own recovery from illness, few studies examine these issues while the patient is still in ICU. This study analyzes the psychological distress of 71 ICU patients and the potential risk/protective factors for such distress. Patients showed moderate anxiety and depression although in a significant percentage clinical symptomatology was observed. More than halve of the patients revealed an intermediate general stress level and the most important stressor was having pain. Regarding risk factors for psychological distress, being a woman increased the risk for anxiety, depression and stress. Being a septic patient also increased…

2016
Masteroppgave i folkehelsevitenskap – Universitetet i Agder 2016 The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between sports participation, sense of belonging and psychological distress in a sample of Norwegian adolescents during a one-year period. We also wanted investigate the potential mediating effect of sense of belonging on the relationship between the degree of sports participation and psychological distress one year later. This longitudinal study is part of a larger project called "the Relevance of Physical Activity Contexts in Every-Day Life of Adolescents" (REPAC). This study is based on data collections made in spring 2014 (N = 3049) and 2015 (N = 2890) where student…
Bifactor analysis and construct validity of the five facet mindfulness questionnaire (FFMQ) in non-clinical Spanish samples
2015
The objective of the present study was to examine the dimensionality, reliability, and construct validity of the Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire (FFMQ) in three Spanish samples using structural equation modeling (SEM). Pooling the FFMQ data from 3 Spanish samples (n = 1191), we estimated the fit of two competing models (correlated five-factor vs. bifactor) via confirmatory factor analysis. The factorial invariance of the best fitting model across meditative practice was also addressed. The pattern of relationships between the FFMQ latent dimensions and anxiety, depression, and distress was analyzed using SEM. FFMQ reliability was examined by computing the omega and omega hierarchical c…
2020
Šī pētījuma ietvaros tika veikta uztvertā skolotāju atbalsta, sociāli emocionālā distresa un sociāli emocionālās veselības sakarību un atšķirību izpēte, izmantojot psiholoģiskās veselības duālo faktoru modeli, kura ietvaros psiholoģiskās veselības pozitīvie un negatīvie aspekti tiek pētīti kombinēti, veidojoties četrām psiholoģiskās veselības apakšgrupām: plaukstoši jaunieši (zemi distresa simptomi un augsti psiholoģiskie resursi), trausli jaunieši (zemi distresa simptomi un zemi psiholoģiskie resursi), simptomātiski, bet apmierināti jaunieši (augsti distresa simptomi un augsti psiholoģiskie resursi) un satraukti jaunieši (augsti distresa simptomi un zemi psiholoģiskie resursi). Pētījumā pi…
Conceptualising Work-Related Moral Suffering : Exploring and Refining the Concept of Moral Distress in the Context of Social Work
2020
In the nursing literature, work-related suffering due to restricted moral agency is commonly considered under the concept of moral distress. This concept has resonated strongly amongst nursing scholars since the 1980s and has recently gained ground amongst social work scholars as well. However, the research on moral distress suffers from inadequate conceptual clarity; this has led to multiple and disparate ways of empirically studying the phenomenon. This article examines the conceptualisations of moral distress applied in the nursing and social work literature and identifies and discusses the challenges and potential problems related to them. The article sheds light on the complex, dynamic…
Distress, Eustress, or No Stress? Explaining Smartphone Users' Different Technostress Responses
2018
Technostress is common and has harmful consequences. Therefore, researchers have shown increasing interest in explaining technostress in the field of information systems (IS). While extant research merits in identifying the causes and consequences of technostress, it has not explained empirically why information technology (IT) users have different responses to similar potentially stressful IT events. Indeed, events such as smartphone failures can derive negative distress responses for some users and positive eustress responses for others. To address this gap in research, we conducted a qualitative study by interviewing users who had experienced smartphone failures. As a contribution, our f…
