Taxonomic review of the
2017
Abstract Two new species of the genus Fulvius Stål are described from the Philippines and Papua New Guinea. A taxonomic review of representatives of the F.bifenestratus species group, illustrations of the male genitalia, a color habitus image of each species, and a key to species of the group are provided.
Three new species of Anacharis Dalman, 1823 (Hymenoptera: Figitidae), with revised taxonomy and distribution records of Palaearctic and Indomalayan s…
2018
An update of the current knowledge of Anacharis Dalman, 1823 for the Palaearctic and Indomalayan regions is given. The previously known Palaearctic species Anacharis antennata Belizin, 1951, Anacharis eucharoides (Dalman, 1818), Anacharis immunis Walker, 1835 and Anacharis parapsidalis Belizin, 1951 are redescribed. Three new species are described: Anacharis fergussoni sp. nov. from Europe, Anacharis norvegica sp. nov. from Norway and Anacharis belizini sp. nov. from Thailand, the first recorded Indomalayan species for the genus. Anacharis gracilipes Ionescu, 1969, is synonymized with A. eucharoides , while Anacharis flavidicornis Kieffer, 1910 is transferred to the genus Aegilips Haliday, …
The genus Trynocoris Herring, 1976 (Heteroptera: Miridae: Cylapinae) is no longer monotypic: T. costaricaensis sp. nov. from Guanacaste, north-wester…
2022
A revised diagnosis of the genus Trynocoris Herring, 1976 is presented and a new species, Trynocoris costaricaensis sp. nov., is described based on specimens collected in Costa Rica. Colour photographs of the adult and illustrations of the male genitalia are provided for the new species. Scanning electron micrographs of selected structures of the new species are also given.
Diversity, ecology and biogeography of Antarctic benthic hydrozoans: the Weddell Sea and the Scotia Arc as study cases
2017
The first record of the genus Fulvius Stål, 1862 (Heteroptera: Miridae: Cylapinae) from continental China with description of a new species
2020
A new species of the genus Fulvius Stål, 1862 (Heteroptera: Miridae: Cylapinae: Fulviini) is described based on a couple of specimens collected in Yunnan Province in SW China. The genus is also reported from continental China for the first time. Detailed illustrations of the tarsi, the distribution of trichobothria on the metafemur and male genitalia are given, and an image of the dorsal habitus is presented.
New data on Siciliaria septemplicata (R.A. Philippi, 1836) complex (Gastropoda Clausiliidae) from the surroundings of Palermo (NW-Sicily, Italy)
2023
Siciliaria septemplicata (R.A. Philippi, 1836) (Gastropoda Clausiliidae) endemic from northwestern Sicily (Italy) is revised, using shell and genital characters. The diversity of the species complex, the taxonomic history, faunal data and distributional relationships are examined. Siciliaria septemplicata vincentii n. ssp. and S. septemplicata mariastellae n. ssp. from the surroundings of Palermo are here described
The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) and its Role in Conservation of Cacti and Other Succulent…
2007
The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) contributes to nature conservation by regulating international trade in listed species by means of a permit system. Through this control system all parties assist in maintaining the listed rare and threatened species in the wild. CITES allows trade in wild specimens up to a level that is not detrimental for the survival of the species in the wild, that is, a use of nature commonly referred to as sustainable use. The basis of CITES are discussed with special emphasis on the Cactaceae and other succulent plants included in the Convention. The framework of regulation of plants in trade is outlined and t…
Biodiverse green roofs in Mediterranean climate. Input and lessons learned from Germany and Switzerland
In the realm of the doctoral program in technologies for sustainability and land restoration, this thesis deepens sustainable and ecological solutions for Mediterranean environment after the German tradition and the Swiss school of green roofs for biodiversity. Specific aims were to: (1) assess the effectiveness of the existing green roofs norms in supporting biodiversity; (2) review methodologies and approaches for the implementation of biodiverse green roofs but also their application for ecological design; (3) identify habitat templates in the Mediterranean ecoregion replicable on green roofs; and (4) investigate the long term vegetation development of unmanaged green roofs in order to g…
Study of the impact of viticultural practices on arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi associated with vines
2021
Arbuscular mycorrhiza, a mutualistic symbiosis established between plants andarbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF), providesmany ecosystem services such as improved soilstructure, increased plant growth and nutrition, and improved tolerance to biotic and abioticstresses. However, intensive agricultural practicesand the use of phytosanitary products as forexample herbicide and fungicides, have a strongimpact on communities of soil microorganisms, including arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi, as well ason biological mechanisms within the ecosystem. This thesis wotk is part of the European Biovineproject supported by the European Commissionthrough the CORE Organic Cofund. The aim of this research work was …
