The exposure of the hybrid detector of the Pierre Auger Observatory
2010
The Pierre Auger Observatory is a detector for ultra-high energy cosmic rays. It consists of a surface array to measure secondary particles at ground level and a fluorescence detector to measure the development of air showers in the atmosphere above the array. The ‘‘hybrid” detection mode combines the information from the two subsystems. We describe the determination of the hybrid exposure for events observed by the fluorescence telescopes in coincidence with at least one water-Cherenkov detector of the surface array. A detailed knowledge of the time dependence of the detection operations is crucial for an accurate evaluation of the exposure. We discuss the relevance of monitoring data coll…
The Fluorescence Detector of the Pierre Auger Observatory
2010
The Pierre Auger Observatory is a hybrid detector for ultra-high energy cosmic rays. It combines a surface array to measure secondary particles at ground level together with a fluorescence detector to measure the development of air showers in the atmosphere above the array. The fluorescence detector comprises 24 large telescopes specialized for measuring the nitrogen fluorescence caused by charged particles of cosmic ray air showers. In this paper we describe the components of the fluorescence detector including its optical system, the design of the camera, the electronics, and the systems for relative and absolute calibration. We also discuss the operation and the monitoring of the detecto…

A neural network clustering algorithm for the ATLAS silicon pixel detector
2014
A novel technique to identify and split clusters created by multiple charged particles in the ATLAS pixel detector using a set of artificial neural networks is presented. Such merged clusters are a common feature of tracks originating from highly energetic objects, such as jets. Neural networks are trained using Monte Carlo samples produced with a detailed detector simulation. This technique replaces the former clustering approach based on a connected component analysis and charge interpolation. The performance of the neural network splitting technique is quantified using data from proton-proton collisions at the LHC collected by the ATLAS detector in 2011 and from Monte Carlo simulations. …
Eye movements when reading sentences with handwritten words.
2016
The examination of how we read handwritten words (i.e., the original form of writing) has typically been disregarded in the literature on reading. Previous research using word recognition tasks has shown that lexical effects (e.g., the word-frequency effect) are magnified when reading difficult handwritten words. To examine this issue in a more ecological scenario, we registered the participants’ eye movements when reading handwritten sentences that varied in the degree of legibility (i.e., sentences composed of words in easy vs. difficult handwritten style). For comparison purposes, we included a condition with printed sentences. Results showed a larger reading cost for sentences with dif…

1992
HASTA HACE RELATIVAMENTE POCO TIEMPO SE HA PRESTADO ESCASA ATENCION AL PERIODO CONQUENSE DEL PINTOR GENOVES BARTOLOME MATARANA. LA DOCUMENTACION, SIN EMBARGO, PERMITE PRECISAR SUFICIENTEMENTE SU BIOGRAFIA ENTRE 1573 Y 1597, ETAPA LIGADA A CUENCA, DONDE DISFRUTO DE GRAN ESTIMACION. MUCHAS SON LAS OBRAS DOCUMENTADAS QUE LLEVO A CABO ENTRE LOS MENCIONADOS AÑOS, ENTRE LAS QUE MERECEN ESPECIAL MENCION LAS DEL RETABLO DE LA TRINIDAD DE LA COLEGIATA DE BELMONTE (CUENCA) Y LAS DEL RETABLO DE LA ERMITA DE LA TRINIDAD DE CAMPILLO DE ALTOBUEY (CUENCA) (ABC/LAG).
San Dimas y El Donante (atribuida a Miguel Esteve). Estudio iconográfico e iconológico
2003
En este estudio se intenta arrojar datos sobre posible autoría de la obra San Dimas y el donante, atribuida a Miguel Esteve, perteneciente a los fondos del Museo de la Catedral de Valencia. Del mismo modo, dar respuestas a la existencia de una obra de inusual iconografía en el ámbito no sólo valenciano sino europeo, realizando un análisis iconológico profundo por medio de las fuentes más cercanas al autor y al comitente, ahondando en el panorama valenciano a caballo de los siglos XV y XVI. Assessment of tools for urban energy planning
2019
Abstract In recent years, studies and policies have encouraged the diffusion of distributed energy supply technologies and large integration of renewable sources. This increases the need for new professionals in energy planning. Several computational tools for energy planning have been developed as described in the technical literature. However, energy planners of urban/district areas engaged in the transition towards smart systems related to buildings energy services require well-documented tools to evaluate the combination of available energy sources by proper conversion technologies. With this, after a scientific review, we selected 17 tools targeted on an urban/districts scale that can …
