Periodic Spline Wavelets and Wavelet Packets
2014
This chapter presents wavelets and wavelet packets in the spaces of periodic splines of arbitrary order, which, in essence, are the multiple generators for these spaces. The SHA technique provides explicit representation of the wavelets and wavelet packets and fast implementation of the transforms in one and several dimensions.
Improved color interpolation using discrete wavelet transform
2005
New approaches to Color Interpolation based on Discrete Wavelet Transform are described. The Bayer data are split into the three colour components; for each component the Wavelet Coefficient Interpolation (WCI) algorithm is applied and results are combined to obtain the final colour interpolated image. A further anti-aliasing algorithm can be applied in order to reduce false colours. A first approach consists of interpolating wavelet coefficients starting from a spatial analysis of the input image. It was considered an interpolation step based on threshold levels associated to the spatial correlation of the input image pixel. A second approach consists of interpolating wavelet coefficients …
A General Frame-by-Frame Wavelet Transform Algorithm for a Three-Dimensional Analysis with Reduced Memory Usage
2007
The 3D-DWT is a mathematical tool of increasing importance. However, the huge memory requirement of the algorithms that compute it is one of the main drawbacks in practical implementations. In this paper, we introduce a frame-by-frame algorithm to calculate the 3D-DWT with low memory usage. This algorithm is general, in the sense that it can be employed with any wavelet transform and, contrary to other proposals, it gets the same results as the regular wavelet transform. In addition, there is no need to divide the input video sequence into group of frames, and it can be applied in a continuous manner, so that coding efficiency is increased and no blocking artifacts appear.
Performance of Spectral Fitting Methods for vegetation fluorescence quantification
2010
The Fraunhofer Line Discriminator (FLD) principle has long been considered as the reference method to quantify solar-induced chlorophyll fluorescence (F) from passive remote sensing measurements. Recently, alternative retrieval algorithms based on the spectral fitting of hyperspectral radiance observations, Spectral Fitting Methods (SFMs), have been proposed. The aim of this manuscript is to investigate the performance of such algorithms and to provide relevant information regarding their use. FLD and SFMs were used to estimate F starting from Top Of Canopy (TOC) fluxes at very high spectral resolution (0.12 nm) and sampling interval (0.1 nm), exploiting the O2-B (687.0 nm) and O2-A (760.6 …

Mappings of finite distortion: a new proof for discreteness and openness
2008
We give a new and elementary proof of the known result: a non-constant mapping of finite distortion f : Ω ⊂ ℝn → ℝn is discrete and open, provided that its distortion function if n = 2 and that for some p > n − 1 if n ≥ 3.
Dissipative Solitons, a Novel Paradigm for Mode-locked Lasers
2013
The concept of a "dissipative soliton" provides an excellent framework for understanding complex mode-locked laser pulse dynamics from a unified picture. It has stimulated innovative laser cavity designs in the past few years. This tutorial lecture provides conceptual pictures illustrated with universal dynamics, highlights recent achievements and prospects for mode-locked laser development.
Means of 2D and 3D Shapes and Their Application in Anatomical Atlas Building
2015
This works deals with the concept of mean when applied to 2D or 3D shapes and with its applicability to the construction of digital atlases to be used in digital anatomy. Unlike numerical data, there are several possible definitions of the mean of a shape distribution and procedures for its estimation from a sample of shapes. Most popular definitions are based in the distance function or in the coverage function, each with its strengths and limitations. Closely related to the concept of mean shape is the concept of atlas, here understood as a probability or membership map that tells how likely is that a point belongs to a shape drawn from the shape distribution at hand. We devise a procedur…
Building Ontologies from XML Data Sources
2009
In this paper, we present a tool called X2OWL that aims at building an OWL ontology from an XML datasource. This method is based on XML schema to automatically generate the ontology structure, as well as, a set of mapping bridges. The presented method also includes a refinement step that allows to clean the mapping bridges and possibly to restructure the generated ontology.
