Capacitance study of thin film SnO2:F/p-type a-Si:H heterojunctions
2011
Abstract We characterized SnO 2 :F/p-type a-Si:H heterojunctions by current-voltage (I-V) and capacitance-voltage (C-V) measurements at room temperature to determine the junction parameters. Samples with circular geometry and different diameters were characterized. The current scales with the junction area, and the current density J as a function of the voltage V is a slightly asymmetric curve with a super-linear behaviour (cubic law) for high voltages. Using a transmission line model valid for devices with circular geometry, we studied the effects of the SnO 2 :F resistivity on the measured capacitance when the SnO2:F layer works as an electrical contact. The measured C-V curve allows us t…
The influence of Al doping on the photocatalytic activity of nanostructured ZnO: The role of adsorbed water
2018
Abstract Al doped ZnO nanoparticles (labeled as x% A-ZnO, x = 0.0, 0.5, 1.0, and 1.5) were synthesized by a simple sol-gel method, characterized and tested as photocatalysts for the degradation of a model compound under UV-light irradiation. Diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS) and photoelectrochemical analysis have been performed to evidence their optical and electronic behavior. The structural features of the powders were highlighted by means of specific surface area (SSA) analysis, X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) and Raman spectroscopy. Al doping results in enhanced photocatalytic activity of the modified powders with respect to pure ZnO. In particular, the h…

Effect of metallacarborane salt H[COSANE] doping on the performance properties of polybenzimidazole membranes for high temperature PEMFCs
2020
[EN] In this paper, a series of composite proton exchange membranes comprising a cobaltacarborane protonated H[Co(C2B9H11)(2)] named (H[COSANE]) and polybenzimidazole (PBI) for a high temperature proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) is reported, with the aim of enhancing the proton conductivity of PBI membranes doped with phosphoric acid. The effects of the anion [Co(C2B9H11)(2)] concentration in three different polymeric matrices based on the PBI structure, poly(2,2 '-(m-phenylene)-5,5 '-bibenzimidazole) (PBI-1), poly[2,2 '-(p-oxydiphenylene)-5,5 '-bibenzimidazole] (PBI-2) and poly(2,2 '-(p-hexafluoroisopropylidene)-5,5 '-bibenzimidazole) (PBI-3), have been investigated. The conducti…
Operating Modes of Sandwiched Light-Emitting Electrochemical Cells
2011
Light-emitting electrochemical cells (LECs) are promising lighting devices in which the redistribution of ionic charges allows for double electronic carrier injection from air-stable electrodes. Uncertainties about the mode of operation are limiting the progress of these devices. Using fast (with respect to the current growth time) but resolutive electrical measurement techniques, the electronic transport mechanism in state-of-the-art sandwiched devices can be monitored as a function of the operation time. The results indicate the formation of doped transport layers adjacent to the electrodes that reduces the extent of the central neutral light-emitting layer where electronic transport is l…
Synergistic Effects of Surface Coating and Bulk Doping in Ni-Rich Lithium Nickel Cobalt Manganese Oxide Cathode Materials for High-Energy Lithium Ion…
2022
Ni-rich layered oxide cathodes are promising candidates to satisfy the increasing energy demand of lithium-ion batteries for automotive applications. Thermal and cycling stability issues originating from increasing Ni contents are addressed by mitigation strategies such as elemental bulk substitution ("doping") and surface coating. Although both approaches separately benefit the cycling stability, there are only few reports investigating the combination of two of such approaches. Herein, the combination of Zr as common dopant in commercial materials with effective Li2 WO4 and WO3 coatings was investigated with special focus on the impact of different material processing conditions on struct…
Doped TiO2 Nanomaterials and Applications
2008
This special issue brieflyreviews some trends and factors that have impacted heterogeneous photocatalysis with next generation TiO2 nanophotocatalysts that could absorband make use of both UV (290–400 nm) and visible (400–700 nm) sunlight to enhance process efficiencies, along with some issues of current debate in the fundamental understanding of the science that underpins the field. Preparative methods and some characteristics features of doped TiO2 as well as its environmental applications are presented and described. The next generation of doped TiO2 photocatalysts should enhance overall process photoefficiencies in many cases, since doped TiO2s absorb a greater quantity of solar radiati…
Quantum chemical simulations of doped ZnO nanowires for photocatalytic hydrogen generation
2016
Zinc oxide (ZnO) is considered in general as a promising material for solar water splitting. Its wurtzite-structured bulk samples, however, can be considered as active for photocatalytic applications only under UV irradiation, where they possess ∼1% efficiency of sunlight energy conversion due to their wide band gap (3.4 eV). Although pristine ZnO nanowires (NWs) possess noticeably narrower band gaps than the bulk, the tendency of band gap reduction with increasing NW diameter is insufficient, and further modification is required. We have contributed to filling this gap by performing a series of ab initio calculations on ZnO NWs of different diameters (dNW), which are mono-doped by metal (A…
Doped semiconductors as half-metallic materials: Experiments and first-principles calculations ofCoTi1−xMxSb(M=Sc, V, Cr, Mn, Fe)
2008
This work reports experiments and first-principles calculations on the substitutional semiconducting $C{1}_{b}$ compound $\mathrm{Co}{\mathrm{Ti}}_{1\ensuremath{-}x}{M}_{x}\mathrm{Sb}$. Diluted magnetic semiconductors have been prepared by substituting titanium in the semiconducting compound CoTiSb by other $3d$ transition elements $M$. Self-consistent calculations of the electronic structure predict some of the materials to be half-metallic ferromagnets. The structural, electronic, electric, and magnetic properties of the pure and substituted materials have been investigated. It is found from the experiments that substitution of up to 10% Ti by Fe, Mn, Cr, and V does not affect the crystal…
Structure and oxide ion conductivity: local order, defect interactions and grain boundary effects in acceptor-doped ceria
2014
The long-range and short-range structure of nanocrystalline and microcrystalline acceptor-doped ceria is investigated by a combined approach using EXAFS, XANES, Raman, and XRD, and correlated with the oxide-ion conductivity in the bulk and in grain boundaries. Compared to Yb3+ and Er3+, the positive influence of Sm3+ is attributed to the ability to repel oxygen vacancies, and to keep a localized disorder around the dopant. The long-range structural analysis shows lattice contraction for Yb- and Er-doping and lattice expansion for Sm-doping. The short-range analysis around the dopants and cerium highlights that a more complex structural rearrangement has to be assumed to explain the compleme…
