The instruments used by the Italian centres for cognitive disorders and dementia to diagnose mild cognitive impairment (MCI).
2018
Aims: The purpose of this study was to examine the tools used in Italy to diagnose mild cognitive impairment (MCI). Methods: In collaboration with the Luigi Amaducci Research Consortium, the Italian Network of Alzheimer Evaluation Units prepared a questionnaire to describe how MCI is diagnosed in the Italian Centres for cognitive disorders and dementia (CCDD). Results: Most of the ninety-two CCDDs participating in the survey were located in hospitals (54.7%); large percentages were coordinated by neurologists (50.8%) and geriatricians (44.6%). Almost all (98.5%) used the Mini Mental State Examination to diagnose MCI; the Clock Drawing Test was also frequently used (83.9%). Other neuropsycho…
Preoperative risk factors for postoperative delirium (POD) after urological surgery in the elderly
2011
The aim of this observational study was to investigate the occurrence of postoperative delirium (POD) in elderly patients undergoing urological surgery and to identify those factors associated with delirium. Ninety consecutive patients (81 males and 9 females; average age of 74.3 ± 0.40 years), undergoing urological surgery in University-Hospital Urological Clinic were selected. Personal, medical, cognitive and functional data, biochemical parameters, preoperative medications, conduct of surgery and anesthesia and details of hemodynamic control were collected as predictors of delirium. After surgery, the subjects were divided on the basis of delirium onset within a week observation period. …
Norman Graphics: A Multimedia Manifesto
2020
The apses of the Cathedral of Monreale (XII century) are characterised by extraordinarily rich decorations, to enhance the most sacred part of the sanctuary where the altar is located. The paper describes some circular inlays of the central apse of the Cathedral of Monreale through a geometric analysis communicated via a multimedia language. The geometric motifs can be arranged in a graphic composition according to an imaginative process that collects all the scientific analysis procedure described above such as a sort of Manifesto of the Norman architectural culture geometry in Sicily and in southern Italy. The Manifesto is an audio-visual product, consisting of vector drawings’ animations…
Ankle Foot Orthoses with Wire Insertion
2013
The objective of the work is to present some researches regarding the virtual modelling of external medical devices with wire insertion. Ankle foot orthoses are used to correct and prevent different disfunctions of the human body and also in athlets recovery. The research is motivate by the problems appeared using this medical devices: durability issues, patient confort, manufacturing costs, lightweight, flexible access to shoes, inexpensive, readily available. These issues depends of the wey design, manufacturing technology, materials used, patient behavior, skills manufacturer. Wire insertion in polypropylene is a new approach of orthoses materials.
Effect of cold drawing on mechanical properties of biodegradable fibers.
2016
Purpose Biodegradable polymers are currently gaining importance in several fields, because they allow mitigation of the impact on the environment related to disposal of traditional, nonbiodegradable polymers, as well as reducing the utilization of oil-based sources (when they also come from renewable resources). Fibers made of biodegradable polymers are of particular interest, though, it is not easy to obtain polymer fibers with suitable mechanical properties and to tailor these to the specific application. The main ways to tailor the mechanical properties of a given biodegradable polymer fiber are based on crystallinity and orientation control. However, crystallinity can only marginally be…
Comparative Study by Numerical Analysis on the Formability of Deep-Drawn Tailor-Welded Blanks
2012
The realising of complex parts by welding together and then deep-drawing metal sheets made of different steel types or even different metal types can have many advantages, such as decreasing the part’s weight, reducing the manufacturing costs and an increased dimensional precision. In order to benefit from these results, a detailed knowledge of the metal sheets’ behaviour during deep-drawing is necessary. The current paper aims to compare, using numerical simulations based on the finite element method, the deep-drawing behaviour of parts made of steel sheets of different thicknesses welded together in three different manners and also of a part made of a monoblock blank.
Investigations on the Mechanical Properties and Formability of Friction Stir Welded Tailored Blanks
2007
Tight competition characterizing automotive industries in the last decades has determined a strong research effort aimed to improve utilized processes and materials in sheet stamping. As far as the latter are regarded light weight alloys, high strength steels and tailored blanks have been increasingly utilized with the aim to reduce parts weight and fuel consumptions. In the paper the mechanical properties and formability of tailored welded blanks made of a precipitation hardenable aluminum alloy but with different sheet thicknesses, have been investigated: both laser welding and friction stir welding have been developed to obtain the tailored blanks. For both welding operations a wide rang…
Chalcogenide Microstructured Fibers for Infrared Systems, Elaboration, Modelization, and Characterization
2009
special issue " Fiber Optic Research in France " (Part III of III); International audience; Chalcogenide fibers present numerous possible applications in the IR field. For many applications, single mode fibers must be obtained. An original way is the realization of microstructured optical fibers (MOFs) with solid core. These fibers present a broad range of optical properties thanks to the high number of freedom degrees of their geometrical structure. In this context, we have developed MOFs for near and mid IR transmission with different geometries and properties such as multimode or endless single-mode operation, small or large mode area fibers. We have also investigated numerically the mai…
Effects of Frequency Dependence of the External Quantum Efficiency of Perovskite Solar Cells
2018
Perovskite solar cells are known to show very long response time scales, on the order of milliseconds to seconds. This generates considerable doubt over the validity of the measured external quantum efficiency (EQE) and consequently the estimation of the short-circuit current density. We observe a variation as high as 10% in the values of the EQE of perovskite solar cells for different optical chopper frequencies between 10 and 500 Hz, indicating a need to establish well-defined protocols of EQE measurement. We also corroborate these values and obtain new insights regarding the working mechanisms of perovskite solar cells from intensity-modulated photocurrent spectroscopy measurements, iden…
Deep Drawing Process Design: A Multi Objective Optimization Approach
2009
In sheet metal forming most of the problems are multi objective problems, generally characterized by conflicting objectives. The definition of proper parameters aimed to prevent both wrinkles and fracture is a typical example of an optimization problem in sheet metal forming characterized by conflicting goals. What is more, nowadays, a great interest would be focused on the availability of a cluster of possible optimal solutions instead of a single one, particularly in an industrial environment. Thus, the design parameters calibration, accomplishing all the objectives, is difficult and sometimes unsuccessful. In order to overcome this drawback a multi-objectives optimization procedure based…
