Floods are among the most widespread of natural disasters and exposure to floodwaters increases drowning risk. A leading cause of flood related drowning deaths is driving through flooded waterways. Drawing on the Theory of Planned Behaviour, a two-phased research program was conducted. Phase 1 (N = 25; Mage = 32.38, SD = 11.46) identified common beliefs about driving through a flooded waterway. Autonomy estimation for EV based on road planning software

A methodology to estimate the energy consumption of an electric vehicle is presented. An approach to create a driving cycle based on data extracted from road planning software is developped; it is used to forecast the total cycle energy consumption. Results are compared to the ones obtained from the corresponding actual driving cycle. The influence of road elevation is taken into. Results match with regard to vehicle velocities, power demand and estimated energy consumption, with a maximum error of 10%. It can thus be concluded that road planning-based energy consumption estimation can be a useful tool by providing accurate information to drivers.

More than half of unintentional flood-related drowning deaths in Australia are due to driving through floodwater, despite on-going public campaigns. Currently, there is a knowledge gap in understanding why individuals choose to drive through floodwater and the decisions that may lead to such actions. Dynamical stability of a many-body Kapitza pendulum

We consider a many-body generalization of the Kapitza pendulum: the periodically-driven sine-Gordon model. We show that this interacting system is dynamically stable to periodic drives with finite frequency and amplitude. This finding is in contrast to the common belief that periodically-driven unbounded interacting systems should always tend to an absorbing infinite-temperature state. The transition to an unstable absorbing state is described by a change in the sign of the kinetic term in the effective Floquet Hamiltonian and controlled by the short-wavelength degrees of freedom. In this paper, the authors describe the data structure necessary to provide real time simulation and visualization of complex environments and situations. Through the SIRCA project, the development of driving oriented simulators, using Virtual Reality (VR) and evaluating it in comparison with convention technologies, has taken place. Focus is on some of the algorithms and data structure required to provide real time simulation of the complex urban environment and its visualization under the conditions of VR devices.

We studied dietary patterns, physical activity (PA), and monthly goal setting in a weight reduction intervention in long-distance professional drivers. The study was conducted in Finland in 2009–2012. Male drivers with waist circumference > 100 cm were randomized to a lifestyle counseling (LIFE, N = 55) and a reference (REF, N = 58) group. During 12 months, LIFE participated in 6 face-to-face and 7 telephone counseling sessions on diet and PA.
