Behavior of gap solitons in anharmonic lattices
2017
International audience; Using the theory of bifurcation, we provide and find gap soliton dynamics in a nonlinear Klein-Gordon model with anharmonic, cubic, and quartic interactions immersed in a parametrized on-site substrate potential. The case of a deformable substrate potential allows theoretical adaptation of the model to various physical situations. Nonconvex interactions in lattice systems lead to a number of interesting phenomena that cannot be produced with linear coupling alone. By investigating the dynamical behavior and bifurcations of solutions of the planar dynamical systems, we derive a variety of exotic solutions corresponding to the phase trajectories under different paramet…
Fractional Derivatives in Interval Analysis
2017
In this paper, interval fractional derivatives are presented. We consider uncertainty in both the order and the argument of the fractional operator. The approach proposed takes advantage of the property of Fourier and Laplace transforms with respect to the translation operator, in order to first define integral transform of interval functions. Subsequently, the main interval fractional integrals and derivatives, such as the Riemann–Liouville, Caputo, and Riesz, are defined based on their properties with respect to integral transforms. Moreover, uncertain-but-bounded linear fractional dynamical systems, relevant in modeling fractional viscoelasticity, excited by zero-mean stationary Gaussian…
Detecting tri‐stability of 3D models with complex attractors via meshfree reconstruction of invariant manifolds of saddle points
2018
In mathematical modeling it is often required the analysis of the vector field topology in order to predict the evolution of the variables involved. When a dynamical system is multi-stable the trajectories approach different stable states, depending on the initialmconditions. The aim of this work is the detection of the invariant manifolds of thesaddle points to analyze the boundaries of the basins of attraction. Once that a sufficient number of separatrix points is found a Moving Least Squares meshfree method is involved to reconstruct the separatrix manifolds. Numerical results are presented to assess the method referring to tri-stable models with complex attractors such as limit cycles o…
Steering dynamical systems with finite plans and limited path length
2007
Complex dynamical systems can be steered by using symbolic input plans. These plans must have a finite descriptive length, and can be expressed by means of words chosen in an alphabet of symbols. In this way, such plans can be sent through a limited capacity channel to a remote system, where they are decoded in suitable control actions. The choice of this symbols is essential to efficiently encode steering plans. To this aim, in this paper, we state the problem of finding symbols maximizing the interval of points reachable by the system along paths with constrained length. We focus on the problem with two symbols, and compare the results with those produced by plans not accounting for the l…
PIECEWISE SMOOTH REVERSIBLE DYNAMICAL SYSTEMS AT A TWO-FOLD SINGULARITY
2012
This paper focuses on the existence of closed orbits around a two-fold singularity of 3D discontinuous systems of the Filippov type in the presence of symmetries.

Robust synchronization and fault detection of uncertain master-slave systems with mixed time-varying delays and nonlinear perturbations
2010
In this paper, the problem of robust synchronization and fault detection for a class of master-slave systems subjected to some nonlinear perturbations and mixed neutral and discrete time-varying delays is investigated based on an H ∞ performance condition. By introducing a descriptor technique, using Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional and a suitable change of variables, new required sufficient conditions are established in terms of delay-dependent linear matrix inequalities to synthesize the residual generation scheme. The explicit expression of the synchronization law is derived for the fault such that both asymptotic stability and a prescribed level of disturbance attenuation are satisfied fo…
Has palaeontology answers for some current environmental problems?
2021
History as an irreversible process has no role from a uniformitarian point of view in geology and palaeobiology. Contingency is another trait of history and particle palaeontology has its foundation on such principles. However, new approaches in physics and the theory of systems point out the need to consider a time arrow. Moreover, chance and necessity are interwoven in synergetics and self-organization theory and there may be some possibility of prediction. The global biota has a history resulting from a process of self-organization. A rich fossil record was produced during the Phanerozoic times and this fossil record shows us how life overcame several important crisis. A clear understand…
Transient dynamics of pulse-driven memristors in the presence of a stable fixed point
2019
Abstract Some memristors are quite interesting from the point of view of dynamical systems. When driven by narrow pulses of alternating polarities, their dynamics has a stable fixed point, which may be useful for future applications. We study the transient dynamics of two types of memristors characterized by a stable fixed point using a time-averaged evolution equation. Time-averaged trajectories of the Biolek window function memristor and resistor-threshold type memristor circuit (an effective memristor) are determined analytically, and the times of relaxation to the stable fixed point are found. Our analytical results are in perfect agreement with the results of numerical simulations.
Gradients of O-information: Low-order descriptors of high-order dependencies
2023
O-information is an information-theoretic metric that captures the overall balance between redundant and synergistic information shared by groups of three or more variables. To complement the global assessment provided by this metric, here we propose the gradients of the O-information as low-order descriptors that can characterise how high-order effects are localised across a system of interest. We illustrate the capabilities of the proposed framework by revealing the role of specific spins in Ising models with frustration, and on practical data analysis on US macroeconomic data. Our theoretical and empirical analyses demonstrate the potential of these gradients to highlight the contributio…
