Although the political commitments of the Aesthetic movement have been questioned over the last two decades, both by including women aesthetes, and by re-evaluating the movement’s dissemination among the middle classes, discussion of Pater’s political ideas is almost non-existent. Dystopian fiction in English: a corpus-driven analysis of esteem in Veronica Roth’s "Divergent" trilogy

In light of the recent wave of popularity of dystopian fiction for young adults, and in particular of Veronica Roth’s trilogy Divergent, research has begun to focus on this subgenre. However, the focus tends to be on educational and gender approaches to the novels, while the psychological aspects of the characters have been largely ignored. My study focuses on the representation of esteem and self-esteem in the trilogy through an analysis based on annotation. The results shed light on the factors that affect the protagonist’s role and self-representation.

Rewolucje i ich konsekwencje dla dystopijnych i antyutopijnych powieściowych światów. Przykłady z polskiej i czeskiej literatury

Powieści o charakterze antyutopijnym i dystopijnym opisują świat po pewnej zmianie. Zmiana ta często przybierała formę rewolucji, gwałtownego zaprzeczenia, odwrócenia znanego porządku. W swoim artykule chciałabym przyjrzeć się literackim kreacjom takich przemian - które w utopijnych wariacjach prowadzą do zniewolenia - nie do wyzwolenia. W omawianych utworach rewolucja jest wynikiem działań postaci reprezentujących odmienne światopoglądy, jednak jej skutek często bywa taki sam niszczy, nie tworzy. Obawy twórców literackich odzwierciedlają znaną im rzeczywistość.

Pro gradu -työssäni tutkin Eija Lappalaisen ja Anne Leinosen kirjoittaman dystooppisen Routasisarukset-trilogian teoksia Routasisarukset (2011), Hiekkasotilaat (2012) ja Konejumalat (2013). Tutkimuksessani keskityn kuvaamaan ja analysoimaan trilogian esityksiä inhimillisestä ja ei-inhimillisestä sekä niiden välistä suhdetta. Tutkielmani teoreettisena taustana ovat ekokritiikin ja kriittisen posthumanismin teoretisoinnit, joiden yhteisiä piirteitä pyrin tutkimuksessani kartoittamaan ja soveltamaan.
