Psychometric Properties and Convergent Validity of the Dependency-Oriented and Achievement-Oriented Psychological Control Scale (DAPCS) with Italian …
2013
This study is aimed to validate the Italian version of the dependency-oriented and achievement-oriented psychological control scale (DAPCS), a self-report questionnaire designed to assess the adolescent’s perception of the two dimensions of psychological control. In Study 1, we assessed factorial validity and reliability of the Italian version of DAPCS with a sample of adolescents. In Study 2, we examined the convergent validity of the Italian version of the DAPCS analyzing the associations between the two domains of psychological control and well-established measures related to them such as strictness/supervision, overprotection, non dependency on parents, and family functioning. Confirmat…
Trajectories of life satisfaction and the financial situation in the transition to adulthood
2013
The aims of this study were (1) to investigate young adults’ life satisfaction changes during the transition to adulthood, (2) to identify possible life satisfaction developmental trajectories during the transition, and (3) to examine how individuals’ agency and personal financial situations are related to the identified life satisfaction trajectories in the contexts of life-span and life course theories of development. The present study is part of the longitudinal Finnish Educational Transitions (FinEdu) study, in which a total of 372 (278 female and 94 male) young adults filled in questionnaires at four measurement points, that is, twice before (at 18 and 19 years of age) and twice after…
Career and Romantic Relationship Goals and Concerns During Emerging Adulthood
2013
This study examined emerging adults’ personal goals and concerns in the domains of career (including education, work, and financial issues) and romantic relationship. A particular focus was on goal and concern hierarchies, that is, individuals’ profiles of goals and concerns. A total of 1,052 Finnish emerging adults (63% female) were followed at ages 20 and 23. Latent class analyses yielded goal and concern profiles that were primarily related to career, whereas romantic relationships were less central in individuals’ goal and concern hierarchies. Career and romantic relationship goals and concerns were associated with life status in these domains, especially prioritizing career goals and …
Life-course perspectives of milk consumption among young Norwegian women and their knowledge of milk as a source of iodine: a qualitative study.
2021
Mild to moderate iodine deficiency has been found among young Norwegian women of reproductive age. In Norway, cow’s milk is the main source of iodine; however, milk consumption is decreasing, particularly among young women. This study aimed to investigate milk consumption practices in young Norwegian women and their attitudes toward milk consumption from childhood to young adulthood in a life-course perspective and their knowledge of milk as a source of iodine. Convenience sampling was used to recruit 30 bachelor students (women, 18–25 years old) from five different study programs. Interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA) was used to interpret milk consumption practices from a life-co…

DETERMINANTS OF DNA METHYLATION BASED AGE ACCELERATION IN YOUNG AND OLDER TWIN PAIRS
2017
DNA methylation (DNAm) age, a novel marker of biological aging, has been shown to predict mortality and to be associated with physiological aging. However, the relative contribution of genetic and environmental factors to DNAm age over life span is not fully known. We estimated the magnitude of genetic and environmental factors in DNAm based age acceleration.
ROAD NETWORK HILLINESS AND DEVELOPMENT OF WALKING DIFFICULTIES AMONG COMMUNITY-DWELLING OLDER PEOPLE
2017
Aims: To study associations between objective road network hilliness and development of walking difficulties (WD) within two years, and to examine how hilliness as a perceived barrier and frequency of moving through the neighborhood affect to this.
AGING IN EUROPE AND GERIATRIC CARE
2017
Europeans are living longer than ever, and this pattern is expected to continue. The increased life expectancy is a remarkable achievement, which however poses obvious challenges for health care and geriatric assistance. There is a progressive increase of older persons living alone and in need of assistance. European countries are handling these challenges with very different approaches. There are countries and regional differences in social policies and sanitary assistance, in providers of care, in quality of the assistance and in lodging costs. The long term care models are also very different (cash benefits, public provision of care services, or hybrid rather than pure models of care). T…
CALPAIN ACTIVITY MAINTAINS GOOD HEALTH OF CENTENARIAN T CELLS; SUMMARY OF THE CALPACENT PROJECT
2017
Causes of aging-associated deterioration of human immunity, and the reasons why the immune system of the oldest old individuals (centenarians) is relatively robust, remain moot. Intracellular proteolysis system of two proteases – µ- and m-calpain – and their inhibitor – calpastatin (the calpain-calpastatin system (CCS)) - is active in resting human peripheral blood T cells, participating in maintenance of their readiness to proliferate and secrete cytokines in response to stimulation. The amounts of the CCS proteins decrease in resting T lymphocytes of healthy elderly, only to return in the centenarians to those levels seen in the young individuals. We compared the calpain activities and th…
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS AND ONSET OF RESTRICTED MOBILITY OUTDOORS IN OLDER ADULTS WITH OSTEOARTHRITIS
2017
The study examines how environmental factors contribute to the onset of restricted mobility outside the home among older adults with osteoarthritis. This was a prospective cohort study of adults aged 50 years and over with osteoarthritis (N=1802). Logistic regression tested the association between the onset of restricted mobility outside the home and health, sociodemographic and perceived environmental barriers (hills and steep slopes, inaccessible public buildings, poor pavement condition, lack of access to public parks or sport facilities, heavy traffic or speeding cars, and poor weather). The potential moderating role of environmental barriers on the association between health factors an…
