Near-infrared radiative transfer modelling with different CH4 spectroscopic databases to retrieve atmospheric methane total amount
2011
International audience; Atmospheric methane content can be retrieved from measurements of solar radiation attenuated by the atmosphere in the near infrared spectral region where the space-borne and ground-based spectrometers carry out regular measurements. It is shown, in the present work, that the different spectroscopic databases can give significantly different results for both forward simulations of the atmospheric transmittance and the inverse problem solution to retrieve the CH4 total content in the atmosphere using spectra measured by ground-based FTIR spectrometer in the near infrared spectral region. These discrepancies and the problem of the reduction of their influence on the atm…
Determination of in vivo skin moisture level by near-infrared reflectance spectroscopy
2015
Near-infrared spectroscopy has a potential for noninvasive determination of skin moisture level due to high water absorption. In this study, diffuse reflectance spectra of in vivo skin were acquired in the spectral range of 900 nm to 1700 nm by using near-infrared spectrometer, optical fiber and halogen bulb light source. Absorption changes after applying skin moisturizers were analyzed over time at different body sites. Results show difference in absorption when comparing dry and normal skin. Comparison of absorption changes over time after applying moisturizer at different body sites is analyzed and discussed. Some patterns of how skin reacts to different skin moisturizers are shown, alth…
Design and realization of a portable multichannel continuous wave fNIRS
2014
A design and implementation of a portable functional Near InfraRed Spectroscopy embedded system prototype is described. In this theoretical and experimental work, we present an embedded system hosting 64 LED sources and 128 Silicon PhotoMultiplier detectors (SiPM). The elementary part of the structure is a flexible probe “leaf” consisting of 16 SiPMs, 4 couples of LEDs, each operating at two wavelengths, and a temperature sensor. The hardware system is based on an ARM main microcontroller that allows to perform both the switching time of LEDs and the acquisition of the SiPM outputs. The performed preliminary experimental tests achieved very promising results, thus demonstrating the effectiv…
Role of continuous moisture profile monitoring by inline NIR spectroscopy during fluid bed granulation of an Enalapril formulation
2010
Granulation and tableting are closely related process steps in the supply chain of pharmaceutical products. Even today, these steps are still optimized independently by trial and error. On the framework of a process analytical technology approach, these processes were evaluated in an integrated approach. Enalapril maleate is a low-dose drug substance with poor granulating and tableting behavior. In order to verify how granulation influences tableting properties, different granulation experiments were performed.Granulation experiments with fast spraying rate and fast drying as well as fast spraying rate and slow drying, and also combinations of both were run. The obtained granules were then …
Near-Infrared Emission of O2 Embedded in Amorphous SiO2 Nanoparticles
2011
We report an experimental study on the emission properties of O2 molecules loaded by a thermal diffusion process at 200 °C into high-purity silica nanoparticles with mean diameters of 7 and 40 nm. The embedded O 2 features a singlet to triplet emission band peaked at 1272 nm in agreement with the band observed for bulk silica materials. The photoluminescence excitation spectra have been determined in the visible and in the infrared range and are characterized by narrow bands peaked at 691, 764, and 1069 nm, respectively. By comparison of the transition energies, the vibrational quanta have been determined for the ground and for both the excited states; the values found are lower than the co…
Programmable Supercontinuum Laser Spectrum Generator Based on a Liquid-Crystal on Silicon Spatial Light Modulator
2021
Supercontinuum (SC) lasers combine a broadband light spectrum with the unique properties of single-mode lasers. In this work we present an optical system to spectrally filter a SC laser source using liquid-crystal on silicon (LCoS) spatial light modulators (SLM). The proposed optical system disperses the input laser and the spectrally separated components are projected onto the LCoS-SLM, where the state of polarization of each wavelength is separately modulated. Finally, recombining the modulated spectral components results in an output laser source where the spectrum can be controlled dynamically from a computer. The system incorporates two branches to independently control the visible (VI…
Surface Functionality and Water Adsorption Studies of α-Aluminium (III) Oxide Nanoparticles by near Infrared Spectroscopy
2019
The adsorption of water on aluminium (III) oxide nanoparticle surface was studied by near infrared (NIR) spectroscopy. The comparison of NIR spectra at 40% and 60% humidity were reported in this work and were analyzed using second derivative techniques. The second derivative spectra were used to understand the chemistry of adsorption of water molecules. Small amounts of samples were dried under vacuum at 230 °C before the analysis. The analysis of the spectra confirms the presence of three different hydroxyl groups on aluminium (III) oxide surface. The spectra acquired during the adsorption of water molecules show the characteristic peaks in the range of 5400-5100 cm-1 corresponding to the …
Characterization of Silica Extracted from Rice Husk by NIR Spectroscopy and its Application in Separation Science
2020
Rice is one of the major crops and staple food of more than half of the world’s population. Its production generates an abundant by-product, namely rice husk (RH). Rice husk is used as a fuel for power generation. The rice husk ash (RHA) generated during combustion becomes an environmental pollutant and its disposal is difficult. In this work, rice husk was used to produce silica by burning in a furnace at 650°C for 4 hrs. The produced silica was characterized by Near Infrared (NIR) spectroscopy and then used to prepare thin layer chromatography plates (TLC) for testing its efficiency in the separation of organic compounds. The NIR spectrum of rice husk ash showed the presence of combinatio…
SERS activity of photoreduced silver chloride crystals
2019
Metal nanoparticles are widely acclaimed as plasmonic substrates for surface -enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) due to their unique particle plasmon resonances at visible and near infrared regions. Silver nanoparticles are typically employed in SERS when the targeted Raman signature zone of analytes lies at ultra-violet and/or blue to green spectral regimes. Even though silver has strong plasmonic properties, silver-based substrates are often affected by the atmospheric oxidation and show degradation in their SERS performance. One way to overcome this limitation is to use silver chloride crystals as oxidation resistant intermediate and photoreduce them to 'fresh' silver just before SERS an…
