Photochemistry and Redox Chemistry of an Unsymmetrical Bimetallic Copper(I) Complex
2016
The bimetallic copper(I) complex Cu2L2 (cis-1) is formed with high diasteroselectivity from [Cu(NCCH3)4][BF4] and HL (4-tert-butyl phenyl(pyrrolato-2-yl-methylene)amine) in a kinetically controlled reaction. cis-1 features a rather short Cu···Cu distance of 2.4756(6) A and is weakly emissive at room temperature in solution. Oxidatively triggered disproportionation of cis-1 yields elemental copper and the mononuclear copper(II) complex CuL2 (trans-2). One-electron reduction of trans-2 gives cuprate [2]– with a bent bis(pyrrolato) coordinated copper(I) entity. The imine donor atoms of [2]– can insert an additional copper(I) ion giving exclusively the bimetallic complex cis-1 closing the oxida…
X-ray, conformation and electronic structures of 1-nitropyrrolidine
2016
Abstract The chemistry of pyrrolidine compounds has drawn much attention because of their biological activities. The crystal and molecular structure of 1-nitropyrrolidine (C4H8NNO2) at 150K, along with calculated structures (DFT and MP2), are reported herein. In the solid-state, the asymmetric part of the unit cell is composed of one quartermolecule at the position of two perpendicular mirror planes and the five-membered ring is disordered over a mirror plane, revealing the twisted conformation. Both geometries suggest slight sp3 hybridization of the amine nitrogen atom. The non-planar geometry suggests the lack of conjugation of the amine nitrogen lone pair with the nitro group, however th…
One-Pot Synthesis to Quinone-Based Diaza[3.3]cyclophanes
2017
A simple one-pot synthesis to [3.3]cyclophanes that involves quinone moieties was found. The protocol tolerates a variety of amines that include aliphatic and aromatic structures with different functional groups, such as hydroxy groups, amides, and terminal double and triple bonds. The straightforward synthesis can be performed by a twofold N-alkylation reaction with 2,5-bis(bromomethyl)-3,6-dimethyl-1,4-benzoquinone (1). Neither anhydrous nor inert conditions are required. Various amines can be employed without any activating groups, several functionalities at end groups are tolerated, and the cyclophanes generated can be easily modified or embedded into larger molecular architectures. The…
Formation of dibutyl carbonate and butylcarbamate via CO2 insertion in titanium(IV) butoxide and reaction with n-butylamine
2016
Abstract The species resulting from insertion of 12CO2 and 13CO2 into titanium(IV) butoxide is for the first time fully characterized by means of infrared and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. Results show formation of Ti-monobutylcarbonate, that easily undergoes nucleophilic attack by an aliphatic amine. The hydrolysis of the resulting species produces butylcarbamate and dibutylcarbonate as the only main products. Characterization results of the carbonate-like adduct, along with its reactivity with amine molecules open the route to new ways of CO2 utilization as building block for valuable organic compounds.
Single Enantiomer’s Urge to Crystallize in Centrosymmetric Space Groups: Solid Solutions of Phenylpiracetam
2017
A detailed thermochemical and structural study of the phenylpiracetam enantiomer system was performed by characterizing the solid solutions, rationalizing the structural driving force for their formation, as well as identifying a common structural origin responsible for the formation of solid solutions of enantiomers. Enantiomerically pure phenylpiracetam forms two enantiotropically related polymorphs (enant–A and enant–B). The transition point (70(7) °C) was determined based on isobaric heat capacity measurements. Structural studies revealed that enant–A and enant–B crystallize in space groups P1 (Z′ = 4) and P212121 (Z′ = 2), respectively. However, pseudoinversion centers were present res…
Aza and cyanobridged tripodal dinuclear copper(II) complexes: Electrochemical studies and structural evidence for an original azacyanocarbanion
2014
International audience; The reactivity of the mononuclear [Cu(TMPA)(L)] n+ complex (TMPA: tris(2-methylpyridine) amine, L: CH3CN, H2O) towards two different bridging species (tetracyanoethylene, 4,40-bipyridine) was investigated. The dinuclear complex [(mu-4,40-bipy)Cu-II(TMPA)(2)](CF3SO3)(4) (1) was synthesised and analysed by Xray diffraction (XRD). Magnetic studies revealed that this derivative displays very weak antiferromagnetic interactions between the two metal centres (2J = -0.69 cm(-1)). Solution studies (EPR spectroscopy and voltammetry) evidenced the lability of the bridged neutral bipyridine ligand in acetonitrile. The reaction of TCNE (TCNE: tetracyanoethylene) with the copper(…
Photolysis of Tertiary Amines in the Presence of CO2: The Paths to Formic Acid, α-Amino Acids, and 1,2-Diamines
2017
The photolysis of triethylamine (1a) in the presence of carbon dioxide leads to the hydrogenation of CO2, the α-C-C coupling of triethylamine (1a), and the CO2-insertion into the α-C-H σ-bond of amine 1a. This reaction is proposed to proceed through the radical ion pair [R3N·+·CO2·-] generated by the photoionization of amine 1a and the electron capture by CO2. The presence of lithium tetrafluoroborate in the reaction medium promotes the efficient and stereoselective α-C-C coupling of 1a by enhancing the production of α-dialkylamino radicals and the isomerization of N,N,N',N'-tetraethylbutane-2,3-diamine (4a).
Energetic study of bifurcated hydrogen bonds in secondary structures of salts composed with dicarboxylic acids and ethylamine
2020
Abstract The nature of bifurcated hydrogen bonds prompted us to analyze the energy of supramolecular motifs on the example of new structures of carboxylic acids salts with amines, which guarantee a multitude of such interactions. Experimental and theoretical studies of four dicarboxylic salts with primary amine: ethylammonium succinate hydrate (1), tartrate hydrate (2) phthalate hydrate (3) and terephthalate (4) has been investigated along with study of the strength of interactions between the anions and cations. The complete topological analysis of the charge density for all new structures allowed designation of the estimated Cumulative Dissociation Energy (eCDE).
Reagent- and Metal-Free Anodic C-C Cross-Coupling of Aniline Derivatives.
2017
The dehydrogenative cross-coupling of aniline derivatives to 2,2′-diaminobiaryls is reported. The oxidation is carried out electrochemically, which avoids the use of metals and reagents. A large variety of biphenyldiamines were thus prepared. The best results were obtained when glassy carbon was used as the anode material. The electrosynthetic reaction is easily performed in an undivided cell at slightly elevated temperature. In addition, common amine protecting groups based on carboxylic acids were employed that can be selectively removed under mild conditions after the cross-coupling, which provides quick and efficient access to important building blocks featuring free amine moieties.
Strong Influence of the Ancillary Ligand over the Photodynamic Anticancer Properties of Neutral Biscyclometalated IrIII Complexes Bearing 2-Benzoazol…
2018
In this paper, the synthesis, comprehensive characterization and biological and photocatalytic properties of two series of neutral IrIII biscyclometalated complexes of general formula [Ir(C^N)2(N^O)], where the N^O ligands are 2‐(benzimidazolyl)phenolate‐N,O (L1, series a) and 2‐(benzothiazolyl)phenolate‐N,O (L2, series b), and the C^N ligands are 2‐(phenyl)pyridinate or its derivatives, are described,. Complexes of types a and b exhibit dissimilar photophysical and biological properties. In vitro cytotoxicity tests conclusively prove that derivatives of series a are harmless in the dark against SW480 cancer cells (colon adenocarcinoma), but express enhanced cytotoxicity versus the same cel…
