The need and implications of the human capital management system
2021
In an era where technology and innovation seem to take over every organizational process, differentiation in terms of sustainable economic growth is achieved by implementing a human capital management system. In order to develop a proper model that encompasses a long-term perspective and an infinite organizational mindset, using a survey questionnaire collected data from 118 responses and 3 focus groups were conducted. This paper aims to highlight the results regarding the degree of implementation of the human capital management system and the implications for organizational performance arising from this approach. The results of this study present an evaluation model of human capital in org…
Tension in the data environment: How organisations can meet the challenge
2022
Big Data is becoming ubiquitous - widely applied across organisations, industry sectors and society. However, the opportunities and risks it presents are not yet fully understood. In this paper we identify and explore the tensions that Big Data can create at multiple levels, focusing on the need for organisations to meet the challenges that can arise. We draw on insights from twelve papers published in the Special Issue of Technological Forecasting & Social Change entitled “Tension in the Data Environment: Can Organisations Meet the Challenge?” in order to build a ‘Multi-Layer Tensions Model’ that highlights key pressures and challenges in the BD environment. We find evidence of tensions of…

Recognizing and Valuating Intangible Resources - Major Difficulties in Organisational Management
2017
AbstractThe measurement of intangible resources, intellectual capital, has become a major area of investigation for researchers and practitioners, with increasing concerns for monitoring and valuating this type of capital. In spite of this, the approaches to these issues have not been harmonised, therefore management is currently experiencing real difficulties in the assessment and measurement of intangible resources. In this article we wanted to review the valuation of intangible resources from a theoretical point of view, by highlighting the features of the most important valuation methods established in the literature.
Talent identification and development tools
2014
Purpose – This paper aims to contribute to talent management literature by examining empirically the relationship between talent identification and development tools. Design/methodology/approach – The study sample consisted of 112 Argentina-based companies. All participants completed an online survey containing a list of identification and development practices. Responses were analyzed with SPSS 19. Significant differences were observed in the use of all development tools analyzed, with the exception of …
Framing the Sources of Image of a Local Area through Outcome-Based Dynamic Performance Management
2018
This article investigates the place image concept. It aims to frame major factors impacting on the image of a local area and to suggest associated measures. The adoption of a dynamic approach enables the exploration of four major factors: the level of tourism development, the fit of contextual attributes, the strength of identity, and the level of synergy between public and private sectors. The emerging conceptual model identifies twelve performance indicators driving interdependencies between outputs and outcomes. Such a model eventually is applied to the “Taormina-Etna district” – located in Sicily (Italy) – with the intent to discussing its effectiveness.

Creativity from Design and Innovation Perspectives
2017
The notion of innovation is associated with abundant literature presenting a variety of viewpoints, some complementary and others contradictory. In this literature the concept of innovation is often associated with novelty. Elsewhere the same reference to novelty is used to describe creativity, "the creative process is seen as the sequence of thoughts and actions that leads to a novel, adaptive production" (Lubart, 2010). The confusion is further maintained by the fact that research in the fields of creativity and innovation address similar questions. This article aims to explore the relationship between creativity, design, and innovation. To this end, a first part develops a short state of…
Co-creation in networks of SMEs: a conceptual model of the co-creation process
2021
Abstract The ability to adopt new digital technology is a very challenging endeavour, especially for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), who because of resource poverty are dependent on external input and cooperation with other companies. Recent research has indicated that co-creation among SMEs is a promising way to overcome such limitations. However, there has been very limited research on the co-creation process, and we have little understanding about how SMEs would go about to establish and run a co-creation network. We propose a conceptual model based on our review of the literature and our empirical findings from investigating co-creation in four networks. The results expand ou…
The Knowledge Intervention Integration Process
2012
Process oriented Knowledge Management (pKM) has been a widely discussed approach for KM initiatives. The approach ties business strategy closely to KM by connecting knowledge activities to key business processes. Social Software has been taken up in many domains as an organizational tool for managing knowledge. Up till now, the impact of being globally distributed (organizations and teams) has not been emphasized within the pKM view, nor has been the Social Software approach. The globally distributed, Social Software – supported approach has clear impacts for designing and implementing KM processes in the pKM view. Within this paper the authors clarify these implications with an integrated …
