A review of the main approaches to knowledge management

2008

The purpose of this paper is to order and connect different perspectives on the creation and management of knowledge. Several proposals for the classification of the main approaches to knowledge management are considered and their connections and differences discussed. Three main groups emerge: measuring knowledge, managing knowledge (either with greater emphasis on the human factor or on information technologies) and creating knowledge. After selecting and analysing selection of the most relevant studies in this area, these concepts can be arranged into a continuum from a more descriptive perspective to a more normative one. The main contribution of this study is the compilation of literat…

This chapter explores the ways in which communication technology relates to building mutual understanding and trust as well as managing networks and coworker relationships. International audience; Inquiry activities generate rich opportunities for STEM learning and for assessment. When teachers pay attention to assessment information collected during the course of learning, they are able to interpret and make decisions about such assessment data in a timely fashion that can drive future planning and support student learning, for example through feedback. This chapter focuses on how classroom talk can generate evidence of learning and how teachers can utilise this to enable assessment to guide inquiry learning. It looks at several vignettes from different countries of on-the-fly interactions in inquiry settings and unpacks how teachers organised, facilitated an…

Suggestions for Future Research on the Learning Organization

2019

This chapter suggests some areas for further research on the learning organization. The suggestions, which in one way or another all are connected to the need for a discussion on what the learning organization actually means/how it is and should be defined, are presented under four sub-headings: “defining the learning organization,” “demarcating the learning organization,” “concretizing the learning organization through action research,” and “paradigm shift?” The chapter ends with a list of some less developed research suggestions. One of the most important research areas that is suggested in the chapter is figuring out whether there is reason to try to give the learning organization one de…

ERP Systems in Multinational Enterprises: A literature Review of Post-implementation Challenges

2018

Abstract This paper reports on a literature review focusing on challenges during post-implementation of enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems in a multinational context. Through an extensive literature search across multiple databases, we identified 20 articles which address issues in this context. Global demands prove to be a key challenge and source of conflict between parent and subsidiary companies: frequently, parent companies seek control through standardized solutions, while local subsidiaries aim to sustain local processes and routines. The primary focus is to shed light on these contradictive objectives unfolding in this context and identify research areas that need more atten…
