A Role for Judges in Assisted Dying

Medically provoked death, whether euthanasia or assisted suicide, is a common issue for discussion in various forums, participants coming from widely differing fields of knowledge, among who are, of course, doctors. Substantial legal differences exist in Europe on this issue and in an ever-wider Europe, it is essential, for practical reasons, that legislation be standardised. We would like to propose possible regulations that would provide effective safeguards in the application of euthanasia or assisted suicide.

Il lavoro di ricerca condotto da Luciano Longo, su un gruppo di testi inediti di Attilio Bertolucci -stesi tra 1930 e 1940 e conservati presso l’Archivio di Stato di Parma- si è svolto sul doppio fronte della realizzazione di un’edizione critica secondo l’ecdotica tradizionale e, insieme, di un’edizione critica digitale secondo la codifica in XML (eXtensible Markup Language)-TEI (Text Encoding Iniative). This is the first thorough study of a text occurring in two Anglo-Saxon manuscripts. The Latin source of the Old English text preserved in mss. London, BL, Stowe 944 and London, BL, Egerton 3314, fols. 9-72 + Cotton Caligula A xv, fols. 120-53 (Cameron B.12.10) was unknown. The essay provides evidence for the OE text being a translation of a Latin text on liturgical questions. This discovery allows understanding the very nature of the OE work, fosters its correct classification and provides a rationale for its collocation in the two Anglo-Saxon mss. Este vacío legal motiva a los emisores a realizar una interpretación de la norma cuando se comunican en internet durante este periodo. En l’ultim terc del segle XVIII la corona espanyola es va incorporar a la practica de promoure expedicions que, junt amb la reivindicacio sobre els territoris visitats, elaboraren tambe estudis i catalegs de les riqueses naturals trobades. La majoria dels expedicionaris van topar a la tornada amb la incomprensio i l’oblit de les mateixes institucions que havien promogut el seu viatge.

The Medical Valencian Institute promoted a campaign of smallpox free vaccination (1851- 1894) by means of humanized vaccine sent from England. It spread the vaccination for the whole Spain and published careful statistics of the vaccinations practised in the Bulletin of the Medical Valencian Institute. The National Institute of Vaccination (1871) did not recognize his labor and one denied to him the category of Provincial Institute of Vaccination.

Abstract Within the framework of recent historiography about the role of the World Health Organization (WHO) in modernizing public health and the multifaceted concept of global health, this study addresses the impact of the WHO’s “country programs” in Spain from the time it was admitted to this organization in 1951 to 1975. Epidemiological and virological studies into the poliomyelitis in Valencia (1959-1969)

Studies into the polio virus began in Valencia in 1959 with the work undertaken by the microbiologist Vicente Sanchis-Bayarri Vaillant. After his education at the Rochester University and at the Pasteur Institute, Sanchis-Bayarri Vaillant established a laboratory of cell cultures at the Faculty of Medicine in Valencia, where he developed a new diagnostic technique for the poliomyelitis virus. In addition, epidemiological studies were carried out both prior to and post the 1963 vaccination campaign, which proved that Sabin’s oral vaccine was both effective and safe for use.

Viene presentato l’impianto metodologico e tecnologico dell’edizione critica digitale del De nominedi Orso Beneventano (http://www.unipa.it/paolo.monella/ursus), una proof of concept delle innovazioni metodologiche proposte da Tito Orlandi. Il modello qui sperimentato intende superare la dicotomia tra edizione diplomatica e critica grazie ad un ripensamento profondo, semioticamente fondato, dei livelli di trascrizione e di edizione di un testo.
