Non-regular network performance comparison between HSDPA and LTE

2010

In this paper we study and benchmark the performance of 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) and 3GPP Long Term Evolution (LTE) Downlink with constant bit rate type traffic. In addition a non-regular simulation scenario is considered using realistic propagation data and base station positions related to Tokyo city downtown area. HSDPA was introduced in 3GPP Release 5 and in further releases the technology has been improved with e.g. receive and transmit diversity technologies and support for higher order modulation schemes. LTE was introduced in 3GPP Release 8 with completely new physical layer and improved Radio Resource Management (RRM) funct…

Push‐Pull Design of Bis(tridentate) Ruthenium(II) Polypyridine Chromophores as Deep Red Light Emitters in Light‐Emitting Electrochemical Cells

2013

Light-emitting electrochemical cells (LECs) with a simple device structure were prepared by using heteroleptic bis(tridentate) ruthenium(II) complexes [1](PF6)(2)-[3](PF6)(2) as emitters. The push-pull substitution shifts the emission energy to low energy, into the NIR region. The devices emit deep red light up to a maximum emission wavelength of 755 nm [CIE (International Commission on Illumination) coordinates: x = 0.731, y = 0.269 for [3](PF6)(2)], which, to the best of our knowledge, is the lowest emission energy for LECs containing bis(tridentate) ruthenium(II) complexes. A device structure of ITO/PEDOT:PSS/ruthenium(II) complex/Ag was used, and the thickness of the emitting layer was …

Important Aspects of Biowastes Collection and Composting in Nigeria

2002

Many of the areas that generate organic waste that could be biotreated are inaccessible for collection because of the lack of accessible roads, poverty of the residents and general neglect of such places by the government authorities. In Lagos in 1999 it was observed that trucks collecting wastes cannot get into 40% of the inner part of the municipalities because the roads are too narrow or blocked by illegal structures. So one-third of the population received no refuse collection service. There is very little knowledge about the treatment of biowaste and the activities are very low. The laws and regulations governing the management of waste, in general, are weak and inefficient. An importa…

Essentials of Common Industrial Policy

2021

A set of sixteen principles of modern industrial policy is derived from the literature for application to entire regions. Such policy strives to create industrial commons and to rectify market failures which cannot reasonably be expected to self-correct over time. This chapter creates a workable typology of genuine regional industries, distinguishing two main types: Type I is the outcome of targeted selection and Type II of broad investment promotion. A ‘dual core’ of both types is appropriate to most African industrial ecosystems. The chapter goes on to clarify the distinction between regional production networks and stand-alone ‘lighthouses’. The incentive system for regional industries i…

Trigger and aperture of the surface detector array of the Pierre Auger Observatory

2010

The surface detector array of the Pierre Auger Observatory consists of 1600 water-Cherenkov detectors, for the study of extensive airshowers (EAS) generated by ultra-high-energy cosmic rays. We describe the trigger hierarchy, from the identification of candidates howers at the level of a single detector, amongst a large background (mainly random single cosmic ray muons), up to the selection of real events and the rejection of random coincidences. Such trigger makes the surface detector array fully efficient for the detection of EAS with energy above 3 x 1018 eV, for all zenith angles between 03 and 603, independently of the position of the impact point and of the mass of the primary particl…

Modification of antigen-encoding RNA increases stability, translational efficacy, and T-cell stimulatory capacity of dendritic cells.

2006

AbstractAdoptive transfer of dendritic cells (DCs) transfected with in vitro–transcribed, RNA-encoding, tumor-associated antigens has recently entered clinical testing as a promising approach for cancer immunotherapy. However, pharmacokinetic exploration of RNA as a potential drug compound and a key aspect of clinical development is still pending. While investigating the impact of different structural modifications of RNA molecules on the kinetics of the encoded protein in DCs, we identified components located 3′ of the coding region that contributed to a higher transcript stability and translational efficiency. With the use of quantitative reverse transcription–polymerase chain reaction (R…

Collaborative Content Downloading in VANETs with Fuzzy Comprehensive Evaluation

2019

Vehicle collaborative content downloading has become a hotspot in current vehicular ad-hoc network (VANET) research. However, in reality, the highly dynamic nature of VANET makes users lose resources easily, and the transmission of invalid segment data also wastes valuable bandwidth and storage of the users&rsquo

Modeling and Performance Analysis of Energy Efficiency Binary Power Control in MIMO-OFDM Wireless Communication Systems

2011

Published version of an article in the journal:International Journal of Distributed Sensor Networks. Also available from Hindawi Publishing: http://dx.doi.org/10.1155/2011/946258 The energy efficiency optimization of the binary power control scheme for MIMO-OFDM wireless communication systems is formulated, and then a global optimization solution of power allocation is derived. Furthermore, a new energy efficiency binary power control (EEBPC) algorithm is designed to improve the energy efficiency of MIMO-OFDM wireless communication systems. Simulation results show that the EEBPC algorithm has better energy efficiency and spectrum efficiency than the average power control algorithm in MIMO-O…

Wildfire Monitoring Based on Energy Efficient Clustering Approach for FANETS

2022

Forest fires are a significant threat to the ecological system’s stability. Several attempts have been made to detect forest fires using a variety of approaches, including optical fire sensors, and satellite-based technologies, all of which have been unsuccessful. In today’s world, research on flying ad hoc networks (FANETs) is a thriving field and can be used successfully. This paper describes a unique clustering approach that identifies the presence of a fire zone in a forest and transfers all sensed data to a base station as soon as feasible via wireless communication. The fire department takes the required steps to prevent the spread of the fire. It is proposed in this study…

Participation and compensation claims in voluntary forest conservation: A case of privately owned forests in Finland

2009

Abstract A new market-based voluntary programme aimed at preserving forest habitats on private land has been implemented in Finland. This scheme is based on conservation by fixed-term agreements between forest owners and a governmental authority. In this study we examine the characteristics of forest owners and their properties that indicate the owners' willingness to participate in the programme. In addition, we analyse factors affecting the real compensation claims. The study uses a dual set of data from the pilot project, i.e. one data set supplied by the authority and another collected from the owners involved in the project. The results suggest that to increase the participation rate, …
