Study of Glycemic Variability Through Time Series Analyses (Detrended Fluctuation Analysis and Poincaré Plot) in Children and Adolescents with Type 1…

2016

Time series analysis provides information on blood glucose dynamics that is unattainable with conventional glycemic variability (GV) indices. To date, no studies have been published on these parameters in pediatric patients with type 1 diabetes. Our aim is to evaluate the relationship between time series analysis and conventional GV indices, and glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) levels. This is a transversal study of 41 children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes. Glucose monitoring was carried out continuously for 72 h to study the following GV indices: standard deviation (SD) of glucose levels (mg/dL), coefficient of variation (%), interquartile range (IQR; mg/dL), mean amplitude of the la…

Comparison between rectal and body surface temperature in dogs by the calibrated infrared thermometer

2020

Highlights • Dogs poorly tolerate rectal temperature measurements with a contact thermometer. • Existing alternative approaches used uncalibrated infrared thermometers. • Gum and inguinal temperature are correlated moderately to rectal temperature. • Hyperthermia was detected with sensitivity and specificity up to 90.0% and 78.6%. • Future studies should include a calibrated thermometer and control external factors.

Effect of pressure on structural properties and energy band gaps of γ-InSe

2003

We have investigated theoretically the effect of hydrostatic pressure on interatomic bond lengths and energy band gaps of γ-InSe. Total energy calculations were performed using the linear augmented plane wave (LAPW) method, taking into account scalar relativistic corrections as well as spin-orbit coupling. Internal structural parameters were optimized for different pressures by adopting as input the unit cell parameters known from experiment. Our theoretical results for the nearest-neighbor In-Se bond length are in excellent agreement with a recent experimental determination from high-pressure EXAFS measurements. The covalent In-In bond is found to be more compressible than the partially io…

Diagnostic efficacy of panoramic mandibular index to identify postmenopausal women with low bone mineral densities

2011

Objectives: The aim of the study was to compare and assess the accuracy of panoramic mandibular index (PMI) and antegonial index (AI) in the panoramic radiographs of postmenopausal women with normal and low skeletal bone mineral densities( BMD) diagnosed by using dual energy x-ray absorptiometry ( DXA). Study Design: In panoramic radiographs obtained from 40 post menopausal women( 20 normal and 20 osteoporo tic) aged between 50-75 who’s BMD has already been assessed by a DXA, the mean was calculated for PMI and AI index values measured in the right and left mandibles. The PMI and AI index values were evaluated using the student’s t test. The correlation between the observers for indices was…

Fast prototyping of a SoC-based smart-camera: a real-time fall detection case study

2014

International audience; Smart camera, i.e. cameras that are able to acquire and process images in real-time, is a typical example of the new embedded computer vision systems. A key example of application is automatic fall detection, which can be useful for helping elderly people in daily life. In this paper, we propose a methodology for development and fast-prototyping of a fall detection system based on such a smart camera, which allows to reduce the development time compared to standard approaches. Founded on a supervised classification approach, we propose a HW/SW implementation to detect falls in a home environment using a single camera and an optimized descriptor adapted to real-time t…

A Simple Apparatus for the Determination of the Optical Constants and the Thickness of Absorbing Thin Films

2001

We report on a simple and inexpensive apparatus useful for measuring the optical constants n, k and the thickness of weakly absorbing thin films. The measurement is based on an accurate determination of the reflectance and transmittance of a specimen illuminated by a laser beam. The laser beam is incident on a transparent substrate coated with the film to be evaluated, with an angle of incidence equal to the Brewster angle for the substrate, and its polarization can be switched between the p and s states. If the thickness is known to be within a presumptive range, measurements of the p and s reflectance and transmittance allow a calculation of the optical constants n, k and the thickness of…

Size, Form and Flexibility of the Rubber Molecule

1962

Abstract Natural rubber can be brominated in dilute cyclohexane solution, whereby the molecular weight, corresponding to the bromine content, increases. For brominated rubber, increasing bromine content makes cyclohexane an increasingly poorer solvent, which is shown by a contraction of the molecule coils and a decrease in the second virial coefficient. Quantitative results were obtained through viscosity and light scattering measurements. Cyclohexane solutions of brominated rubber containing about 43% bromine have a θ point at room temperature. Here the second virial coefficient is zero and the coil has an ideal Gaussian density distribution. In this state the coil diameter is about 1.6 ti…

ARCHITECTURE AND PHOTOVOLTAICS. Strategies, technologies and novel components for the building envelope
