Abstract Background Despite the global obesity epidemic, few studies have performed cross-national comparisons of adolescents' attempts to lose weight and weight control practices. This study aims to investigate matters mentioned above by weight status in Europe, Israel, and North America. Methods Nationally representative samples of adolescents from over 30 countries completed an anonymous, standardized questionnaire as part of the Health Behaviour in School-aged Children 2001/2002 survey. Este estudio cualitativo tuvo como objetivo explorar los significados atribuidos al virus de inmunodeficiencia humana (VIH) y la experiencia de cambios positivos posteriores al diagnóstico (crecimiento postraumático) en hombres gays de Buenos Aires, Argentina. Se efectuaron catorce entrevistas individuales en profundidad. Se implementó un análisis temático asignando códigos a fragmentos de transcripciones y organizándolos en temas. However, implications of school meals are an actual issue of both public and political concern in several countries. The objective of this study was to evaluate if breakfast served in a lower secondary school could improve dietary habits and school performance among the students. Kabuki's syndrome (KS), or Niikawa -Kuroki's syndrome, is a sporadic multiple congenital anomaly/mental retardation syndrome of unknown etiology. The clinical findings include a peculiar facial dysmorphism (oriental look), developmental delay, growth impairment, hypotonia, scoliosis, persistent fetal fingertip pads, overweight or obesity, hypodontia, heart defects, cleft palate and a variety of other structural defects. KS can present with a wide phenotypical and clinical spectrum that often makes diagnosis difficult.

Die Rate der vertikalen Ubertragung von HIV im Rahmen einer Schwangerschaft liegt in Europa bei etwa 14% aller HIV-infizierten Schwangeren. Risikofaktoren sind: 1. Virusmenge gemessen an p-24-Antigenamie und Hohe der HIV-RNA-Serumkonzentrationen, 2. Abfall der CD4-Lymphozyten unter 600/µl, 3. Chorioamnionitis und 4. Zeitintervall zwischen Blasensprung und Entbindung. Stillen und vaginale Entbindung erhohen die HIV-Infektionsrate des Kindes. Durch antiretrovirale Therapie mit Azidothymidin (Retrovir®) in einer Dosis von 500 mg/Tag wird die vertikale Ubertragung um 67% reduziert. This paper is the result of a visit by Brazilian researchers to Ghana, with the aim of improving understanding of the relationship between traditional healers and conventional health practices, specifically in relation to tuberculosis.
