Electrochemical biosensors for glucose based on metal nanoparticles

2013

Abstract Nanotechnology has affected almost all aspects of biomedicine. The integration of nanomaterials has contributed to the selectivity, the versatility, the stability and especially the sensitivity of bioelectronic devices, including biosensors. In this field, nanomaterials have been employed as enzyme immobilizers, enzyme stabilizers, surface modifiers or labeling factors or have provided individualized catalytic effects. Among other sensing platforms, glucose biosensors are of special clinical and industrial significance because of their role in monitoring blood-glucose levels in diabetes mellitus, one of the most prevalent metabolic disorders worldwide. Similar to other sensing plat…

Development of biosensors for detection of alpha-fetoprotein: As a major biomarker for hepatocellular carcinoma

2020

Abstract Alpha-fetoprotein as a multifunctional glycoprotein with a dual regulatory role in cancer and fetal activities is belonging to an albuminoid gene family. Due to important biological activities of alpha-fetoprotein in the adjustment of cancer, the level of this biomarker, majorly in liver carcinomas, abnormally is elevated. Also, the probability of high-risk or low-risk patients for chromosomal abnormalities can be identified by the serum level of alpha-fetoprotein. The detection of biomarkers possesses an important role in prognosis and early diagnosis of cancer and other diseases. So, the development of accurate and sensitive methods for measurement of alpha-fetoprotein is of grea…

(Photo)electrocatalytic Versus Heterogeneous Photocatalytic Carbon Dioxide Reduction

2021

The present review summarizes some of the main results achieved in electrochemical, photocatalytic, and (photo)-electrocatalytic systems for the reduction of carbon dioxide. After a preliminary survey of the electrocatalytic and photocatalytic systems in terms of materials used, efficiencies, operating conditions, and product distribution, it is shown how the combination of the two approaches affords often higher efficiency than the single technologies and allows better control of the product distribution. In fact, the peculiar energetic distribution at the interface of irradiated semiconductors under opportune electrical bias enables enhancement of the spatial separation of the photogenera…

ELECTROCHEMICAL REDUCTION OF CARBON DIOXIDE TO FORMIC ACID AT TIN CATHODE IN DIVIDED AND UNDIVIDED CELLS: EFFECT OF OPERATING PARAMETERS

2015

The electrochemical reduction of carbon dioxide is considered a relevant topic for both the synthesis of chemicals and the decrease of global warming. Electrochemical processes could utilize excess energy from intermittent renewable sources to convert carbon dioxide in various products such as CO, formate and formic acid, methane and ethylene in water and oxalic acid, formic acid, CO as well as carboxylic acids (by reaction with suitable reagents such as aromatic ketones or benzylic halides) in aprotic solvents [1-3]. It has been shown that the selectivity of the process dramatically depends on the nature of the cathode. Four distinct classes of metal catalysts have been identified on the b…

Electricity Production from Yeast Wastewater in Membrane-Less Microbial Fuel Cell with Cu-Ag Cathode

2023

Wastewater has high potential as an energy source. Therefore, it is important to recover even the smallest part of this energy, e.g., in microbial fuel cells (MFCs). The obtained electricity production depends on the process rate of the electrodes. In MFC, the microorganisms are the catalyst, and the cathode is usually made of carbon material (e.g., with the addition of Pt). To increase the MFC efficiency (and reduce costs by reducing use of the noble metals), it is necessary to search the new cathode materials. In this work, the electricity production from yeast wastewater in membrane-less microbial fuel cells with Cu-Ag cathode was analyzed. In the first place, the measurements of the sta…

Quadruply-bonded dimolybdenum compounds: Reactivity towards TCNE. Structural evidences for the 1-D polymer [Mo2(O2 CCF3)4(TCNE)]∞

2005

cited By 3; International audience; Reaction of [Mo2(O2CR)4] (R = CF 3, 1) with TCNE in toluene affords the new compound [Mo2(O2CCF3)4 (TCNE)·6H5CH3 (2). The structure of 2 is built on [Mo2(O2 CCF3)4] fragments having the usual paddlewheel structure of 1 (Mo-Mo 2.1117(8) Å) and TCNE units. Each polynitrile moiety acts as a bridging ligand between two Mo2 fragments (Mo-N 2.875(4) Å) affording 1-D polymeric chains crossing in the crystal; the toluene molecules occupy the cavities between the chains. 13C NMR, IR and electrochemical data clearly show that formation of 2 does not involve electron density transfer from dimolybdenum fragment to the TCNE unit, which remains in 2 in its neutral stat…

Electrochemically triggered iodide-vacancy BiOI film for selective extraction of iodide ion from aqueous solutions

2021

Abstract The effective extraction and regeneration of radioactive iodide remains an urgent concern for safe nuclear energy utilization. Herein, we developed a novel electrochemically triggered iodide-vacancy BiOI film, which exhibited excellent I− ion extraction capacity of 328.3 mg·g−1. Especially, due to the ion vacancy trap effect, the film showed high selectivity towards I− ions in the existence of a large number of competitive anions. Additionally, the electrochemically switched ion extraction (ESIE) process with this iodide-vacancy BiOI film possessed fast extraction kinetics and high stability. More importantly, the trapped I− ions were easily desorbed from the film without the secon…

Synthesis of Circumpyrene by Alkyne Benzannulation of Brominated Dibenzo[hi,st]ovalene

2019

A transition-metal catalyzed alkyne benzannulation allowed an unprecedented synthesis of circumpyrene, starting from 3,11-dibromo-6,14-dimesityldibenzo[hi,st]ovalene (DBOV). The circumpyrene was characterized by a combination of NMR, mass spectrometry, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis, revealing its multizigzag-edged structure. Two newly introduced C═C bonds in circumpyrene strongly perturbed the electronic structures of DBOV, as evidenced by increased optical and electrochemical energy gaps. This is in good agreement with an increased number of Clar's sextets as well as a decreased number of π-electrons in the conjugation pathway of circumpyrene, according to anisotropy of the…

Analysis of adsorption of phospholipids at the 1,2-dichloroethane/water interface by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy: A study of the effect of…

2007

Abstract The adsorption behaviour of a series of phosphatidylcholines (PCs) with saturated carbon chains of different length (DLPC, DPPC, DSPC, DAPC, and DBPC) at the electrified 1,2-dichloroethane/water interface was studied by measuring electrochemical impedance spectroscopy at the polarized interface. Two different trends in the interfacial capacitance were observed for any of the PCs the capacity dependence on the applied potential: strong adsorption occurs at negative potential with a marked decrease of C ( E ); increase of capacity is observed at positive potentials. It is demonstrated that the interfacial lipid adsorption was dependent on phospholipid concentration, applied potential…
