Two-loop calculation of the anomalous dimension of the axial current with static heavy quarks

Abstract A method to perform two-loop calculations in Eichten's effective field theory for heavy quarks is developed. The anomalous dimension of the axial current for static heavy quarks is calculated at two loops. For N = 3, we get γ A (2) = − 1 36 [ 127 2 +28ξ(2)−5N f ] . This result is very important to understand completely the physical significance of the lattice measurement of the decay constant of the B meson. The two-loop correction generated by γ A (2) turns out to be small, less than 1% for four quark flavours, so that the value of the decay constant of the B meson does not need in practice renormalization group improvement. Antiscreening of the Ampère force in QED and QCD plasmas

The static forces between electric charges and currents are modified at the loop level by the presence of a plasma. While electric charges are screened, currents are not. The effective coupling constant at long distances is enhanced in both cases as compared to the vacuum, and by different amounts, a clear sign that Lorentz symmetry is broken. We investigate these effects quantitatively, first in a QED plasma and secondly using non-perturbative simulations of QCD with two light degenerate flavors of quarks.
Minimally doubled fermions at one loop

Minimally doubled fermions have been proposed as a cost-effective realization of chiral symmetry at non-zero lattice spacing. Using lattice perturbation theory at one loop, we study their renormalization properties. Specifically, we investigate the consequences of the breaking of hyper-cubic symmetry, which is a typical feature of this class of fermionic discretizations. Our results for the quark self-energy indicate that the four-momentum undergoes a renormalization which contains a linearly divergent piece. The unexpectedly strong suppression of high p_T heavy-quarks in heavy-ion collisions has given rise to the idea that partons propagating through a medium in addition to energy loss by induced radiation also undergo substantial energy loss due to elastic collisions. However, the precise magnitude of this elastic energy loss component is highly controversial. A phenomenological quark current for the study of the polarized structure function of the nucleon

In the context of the quark model, a phenomenological expression for the electromagnetic interaction is derived in order to study the polarized structure function of the nucleon. The DHG value without hyperfine corrections and the asymptotic behaviour are reproduced.
Towards a Unified Description of the Baryon Spectrum and the Baryon-Baryon Interaction within a Potential Model Scheme

We study the low energy part of the nucleon and ∆ spectra by solving the Schrodinger equation for the three-quark system in the hyperspherical harmonic approach. The quark-quark hamiltonian considered includes, besides the usual one-gluon exchange, pion and sigma exchanges generated by the chiral symmetry breaking This quark-quark potential reproduces, in a Resonating Group Method calculation, the nucleon-nucleon scattering phase shifts and the deuteron properties. The baryonic spectrum obtained is quite reasonable and the resulting wave function is consistent with the ansatz used in the two baryon system.

Chiral dynamics in the low-temperature phase of QCD

We investigate the low-temperature phase of QCD and the crossover region with two light flavors of quarks. The chiral expansion around the point $(T,m=0)$ in the temperature vs. quark-mass plane indicates that a sharp real-time excitation exists with the quantum numbers of the pion. An exact sum rule is derived for the thermal modification of the spectral function associated with the axial charge density; the (dominant) pion pole contribution obeys the sum rule. We determine the two parameters of the pion dispersion relation using lattice QCD simulations and test the applicability of the chiral expansion. Quark number susceptibilities at high temperatures

We calculate second and fourth order quark number susceptibilities for 2+1 flavor QCD in the high temperature region. In our study we use two improved staggered fermion formulations, namely the highly improved staggered quark formulation, and the so-called p4 formulation, as well as several lattice spacings. Second order quark number susceptibilities are calculated using both improved staggered fermion formulations, and we show that in the continuum limit the two formulations give consistent results. Taming the higher power corrections in semileptonic B decays

We study the effect of dimension 7 and 8 operators on inclusive semileptonic B decays and the extraction of |Vcb|. Using moments of semileptonic B decay spectra and information based on the Lowest-Lying State saturation Approximation (LLSA) we perform a global fit of the nonperturbative parameters of the heavy quark expansion including for the first time the O(1/mb^{4,5}) contributions. Higher power corrections appear to have a very small effect on the extraction of |Vcb|, independently of the weight we attribute to the LLSA.
