A rigidity theorem for Lagrangian deformations

2005

We consider deformations of singular Lagrangian varieties in symplectic manifolds. We prove that a Lagrangian deformation of a Lagrangian complete intersection is analytically rigid provided that this is the case infinitesimally. This result is given as a consequence of the coherence of the direct image sheaves of relative infinitesimal Lagrangian deformations.

Optical gain, spontaneous and stimulated emission of surface plasmon polaritons in confined plasmonic waveguide

2010

International audience; We develop a theoretical model to compute the local density of states in a confined plasmonic waveguide. Based on this model, we derive a simple formula with a clear physical interpretation for the lifetime modification of emitters embedded in the waveguide. The gain distribution within the active medium is then computed following the formalism developed in a recent work [Phys. Rev. B 78, 161401 (2008)], by taking rigorously into account the pump irradiance and emitters lifetime modifications in the system. We finally apply this formalism to describe gain–assisted propagation in a dielectric–loaded surface plasmon polariton waveguide.

Selection and characterization of adsorbents for the analysis of an explosive-related molecule traces in the air

2013

International audience; This study is focused on the development of a 3D micro-preconcentrator for a sensitive analysis of an explosive-related compound: orthonitrotoluene (ONT). A set of potentially efficient adsorbents for the pre-concentration of ONT was investigated here. An in-depth characterization of their textural properties was carried out in order to better understand their adsorption behavior toward the target analyte. More particularly, this study allowed highlighting the interesting adsorption features of a hydrophobic zeolite and a porous activated carbon in relation to their preconcentration performances toward ONT at the ppb level. Moreover, we found a difference in the adso…

Controlled iontophoretic release of glucocorticoids through epithelial cell monolayers

1998

In the present study the iontophoretic transdermal delivery of three different glucocorticoids through a confluent monolayer of MDCK cells, mimicking biological barriers, was studied. For this experiment an in vitro model with platinum electrodes for iontophoresis and MDCK cells was developed. With this model investigations concerning the biocompatibility of the cells depending on different current densities and the iontophoretic permeation of the three glucocorticoids through the cell monolayer were carried out. The permeation behavior of this living biological barrier should be very similar to the non-living barrier, human stratum corneum. Different current densities (12.74-38.22 microA/c…

Curvature increases permeability of the plasma membrane for ions, water and the anti-cancer drugs cisplatin and gemcitabine

2019

ABSTRACTIn this work the permeability of a model asymmetric plasma membrane, for ions, water and the anti-cancer drugs cisplatin and gemcitabine is studied by means of all-atom molecular dynamics simulations. It is shown that permeability of the membranes increases from one to three orders of magnitude upon membrane bending depending on the compound and the sign of curvature. Our results show that the membrane curvature is an important factor which should be considered during evaluation of drug translocation.TOC GRAPHICS

Comparison of thermal‐ and photo‐polymerization of lauryl methacrylate monolithic columns for CEC

2009

Lauryl methacrylate-based (LMA) monolithic columns for CEC, prepared using either thermal initiation or by UV-irradiation in the presence of AIBN have been compared. Thermal polymerization was carried out at 70 degrees C for 20 h. For UV initiation, the effects of the time exposure to UV light and irradiation energy were investigated. For each initiation process, the influence of composition of porogenic solvent (1,4-butanediol/1-propanol ratio) on the physical and electrochromatographic properties of the resulting monoliths was also evaluated. Photochemically lauryl methacrylate stationary phases initiated showed higher permeabilities and better efficiencies than those prepared by thermal …

Convective electrodiffusion processes through graft-modified charged porous membranes

1999

Convective diffusion and electrophoresis across a charged porous membrane showing variable permeability properties were studied. The membrane used was prepared by grafting poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) onto a porous polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membrane. The degree of grafting was selected to be relatively low, 18 wt%, to compromise between the ion selectivity and hydraulic permeability of the membrane. The possible electric field induced effects on the membrane permselectivity were examined after the membrane had been characterized by convective diffusion and concentration cell potential measurements. The measured electrophoresis data, however, could be modelled using the extended Teorell–Mey…

Leberzellpermeabilitt unter dem Einfluss von Prednisolon

1959

Forward doubly-virtual Compton scattering off the nucleon in chiral perturbation theory: II. Spin polarizabilities and moments of polarized structure…

2020

We examine the polarized doubly-virtual Compton scattering (VVCS) off the nucleon using chiral perturbation theory ($\chi$PT). The polarized VVCS contains a wealth of information on the spin structure of the nucleon which is relevant to the calculation of the two-photon-exchange effects in atomic spectroscopy and electron scattering. We report on a complete next-to-leading-order (NLO) calculation of the polarized VVCS amplitudes $S_1(\nu, Q^2)$ and $S_2(\nu, Q^2)$, and the corresponding polarized spin structure functions $g_1(x, Q^2)$ and $g_2(x,Q^2)$. Our results for the moments of polarized structure functions, partially related to different spin polarizabilities, are compared to other th…

Comparative study of the performance of spherical and angular silica and alumina supports in the 1-10-μm size range

1978

Summary Columns packed with four different sets of well characterized packings, spherical silica, angular silica, spherical alumina and angular alumina, varying in mean particle diameter ( d p ) between 1 and 10 μm, were compared. On these columns, the chromatographic permeability ( K 10 ), the column resistance parameter (Φ) and the reduced plate height-velocity dependences were determined under identical and comparable conditions. Discrepancies were found for K 10 and Φ depending on the type of packing and the particle shape. The courses of the h versus v plot, however, were nearly identical for packings with d p > 4 μm, showing a minimum at v ≅ 5 and h = 1.5–2.5 for solutes of k ′ ≅ 0.2 …
