Optimal Source Selection for Image Photoplethysmography

International audience; This paper presents an optimal selection on the region of interest (ROI) and color spaces to extract photoplethysmography signals from facial videos. The study is carried out under two sections; ROI selection and color space selection. We compared five different ROI selection for different regions of the face. We also investigated three color spectrums namely additive, perceptual and orthogonal color spaces. The study experimented on the publicly available human-computer interaction (HCI) database. Abstract To overcome disadvantages of nowadays microtechnology, a further miniaturization of electronic devices, high integration level as well as increase of both operation frequencies and power density is required, including the use of adequate materials and innovative chip interconnects. Due to their unique physical properties, especially due to a ballistic (without losses) mechanism of conductivity, carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and graphene nanoribbons (GNRs) attract a permanently growing technological interest, for example, as promising candidates for nanointerconnects in a high-speed electronics.

Time-dependent screening explains the ultrafast excitonic signal rise in 2D semiconductors

We calculate the time evolution of the transient reflection signal in an MoS$_2$ monolayer on a SiO$_2$/Si substrate using first-principles out-of-equilibrium real-time methods. Our simulations provide a simple and intuitive physical picture for the delayed, yet ultrafast, evolution of the signal whose rise time depends on the excess energy of the pump laser: at laser energies above the A- and B-exciton, the pump pulse excites electrons and holes far away from the K valleys in the first Brillouin zone. Electron-phonon and hole-phonon scattering lead to a gradual relaxation of the carriers towards small $\textit{Active Excitonic Regions}$ around K, enhancing the dielectric screening. The acc…

A Robust Multi Stage Technique for Image Binarization of Degraded Historical Documents

International audience; Document image binarization is a central problem in many document analysis systems. Indeed, it represents one of the basic challenges, especially in case of historical documents analysis. In this paper, we propose a novel robust multi stage framework that combines different existing document image thresholding methods for the purpose of getting a better binarization result. Changes in surface stress, morphology and chemical composition of silica and silicon nitride surfaces during the etching by gaseous HF acid

International audience; HF acid attack of SiO2 and Si3N4 substrates is analyzed to improve the sensitivity of a sensor based on inicrocantilever. Ex situ analysis of the etching using XPS, SIMS and AFM show significant changes in the anisotropy and the rate of the etching of the oxides on SiO2 and Si3N4 surface. Those differences influence the kinetic evolution of the plastic bending deflection of the cantilever coated with SiO2 and Si3N4 layer, respectively. The linear dependence between the HF concentration and the Si3N4 cantilever bending corresponds to a deep attack of the layer whereas the nonlinear behavior observed for SiO2 layer can be explained by a combination of deep and lateral …
