Total oxidation of propane using nanocrystalline cobalt oxide and supported cobalt oxide catalysts

Abstract Supported and unsupported nanocrystalline cobalt oxides have been shown to be extremely efficient catalysts for the total oxidation of propane. Total conversion with a high stability has been achieved at reaction temperatures as low as 250 °C. In the present work, a comparison between the catalytic performance of bulk and alumina-supported nanocrystalline cobalt oxide catalysts has been made. The influence of crystallite size, nature of the support (alpha, gamma and mesoporous alumina) and cobalt loading, has been probed. Optimized bath for electroless deposition of palladium on amorphous alumina membranes

A new bath for the electroless deposition of palladium on anodic alumina (AA) membranes is proposed. It was found that the optimal conditions for the uniform deposition of palladium, with minimal damage to the AA membranes, were under conditions of pH 8.4 and plating times shorter than 30 min. The deposited Pd layer was detected by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis. The morphology of the AA membrane before and after plating was examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Calcium silicate hydrates: Solid and liquid phase composition

© 2015 Elsevier Ltd. This paper presents a review on the relationship between the composition the structure and the solution in which calcium silicate hydrate (C S H) is equilibrated. The silica chain length in C S H increases with the silicon concentration and the calcium content in the interlayer space with the calcium concentrations. Sodium and potassium are taken up in the interlayer space preferentially at low calcium concentrations and thus by low Ca/Si C S H. Aluminium uptake in C S H increases strongly at higher aluminium concentrations in the solution. Determination of the Boron/Lead Ratio in Ceramic Materials Based on Electrochemical Quartz Crystal Microbalance

A method for quantitatively determining the relationship boron/lead in ceramic materials is presented. It is based on the attachment of microsamples of ceramic frits to an electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance (EQCM). After a reductive deposition step in the � 0.25 to � 0.85 V (vs. AgCl/Ag) potential range, well-defined stripping peaks are recorded in 0.10 M NaCl plus 0.10 M mannitol. The deposition of boron and lead from suspensions of solid materials, and its subsequent oxidative dissolution can be monitorized at the EQCM. [Context] Despite the fact that many sulfur-bearing molecules, ranging from simple diatomic species up to astronomical complex molecules, have been detected in the interstellar medium, the sulfur chemistry in space is largely unknown and a depletion in the abundance of S-containing species has been observed in the cold, dense interstellar medium. The chemical form of the missing sulfur has yet to be identified.

Background The aim of this study was to evaluate whether calcium (CaL) solution would enhance the capacity of sodium fluoride (NaF) solution in reducing the permeability of hypersensitive dentin. Material and Methods Thirty-two Wistar rats ingested for 45 days acidic isotonic drink (Gatorade, pH 2.7) ad libitum to induce dental erosion. [EN] The incorporation of iodine atoms onto the boron vertices of the o-carborane framework causes, according to spectroscopic data, a uniform increase in the acidic character of the C-c-H (C-c= cluster carbon) vertices, whereas the incorporation of methyl groups onto the boron vertices of the o-carborane framework reduces their acidity. Methyl groups when attached to boron are electron-withdrawing in boron clusters, whereas iodine atoms bonded to boron act as electron donors.
