Measurement of the low-energy antideuteron inelastic cross section

In this Letter, we report the first measurement of the inelastic cross section for antideuteron-nucleus interactions at low particle momenta, covering a range of $0.3 \leq p < 4$ GeV/$c$. The measurement is carried out using p-Pb collisions at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon-nucleon pair of $\sqrt{s_{\rm{NN}}}$ = 5.02 TeV, recorded with the ALICE detector at the CERN LHC and utilizing the detector material as an absorber for antideuterons and antiprotons. The extracted raw primary antiparticle-to-particle ratios are compared to the results from detailed ALICE simulations based on the GEANT4 toolkit for the propagation of antiparticles through the detector material. Simulation of Fatigue Delamination Growth in Composites with Different Mode Mixtures

A numerical model, obtained by implementing a cyclic damage model in the framework of an interface element, is here proposed to reproduce the crack growth in laminated composites subjected to cyclically repeated loads. This model, which differs from the few studies in the literature on the topic, applies not only to single fracture modes but also to mixed modes, and to constant or variable crack growth rates. The applied load (in terms of force or displacement) is assumed to oscillate between a minimum and a maximum constant value. The effect of Ag, Pb and Bi impurities on grain boundary sliding and intergranular decohesion in Copper

We investigate the changes in grain boundary sliding (GBS) and intergranular decohesion in copper (Cu), due to the inclusion of bismuth (Bi), lead (Pb) and silver (Ag) substitutional impurity atoms at a $\Sigma$5 (0 1 2) symmetric tilt grain boundary (GB), using a first-principles concurrent multiscale approach. We first study the segregation behavior of the impurities by determining the impurity segregation energy in the vicinity of the GB. We find that the energetically preferred sites are on the GB plane. Gas-Phase Hydrogenation of Propionitrile Catalyzed by LnCu2 (Ln = La, Ce, Pr, Nd)

The hydrogenation of propionitrile over binary copper−lanthanide intermetallic compounds (LnCu2, Ln = La, Ce, Pr, Nd) was studied in the gas phase. The results show that the reaction main product is the primary amine, the n-propylamine. To our knowledge, it is the first time that such behavior is reported for copper catalysts.

For all structures that are constituted by heterogeneous materials, the meso-modelling approach is the most rigorous since it analyzes such structures as an assembly of distinct elements connected by joints, the latter commonly simulated by apposite interface models. In particular, the zero-thickness interface (ZTI) models are extensively used in those cases where the joint thickness is small if compared to the other dimensions of the heterogeneosu material. Abstract Milk and dairy products are studied as alternative iodine sources, because salt iodisation is controversial due to high salt consumption leading to cardiovascular diseases. However, the iodine concentration in milk markedly varies. This study evaluated the iodine concentration in cow’s milk available in the Latvian market. Iodine and fat concentration was analysed with a spectrophotometer “Varian Cary 50” based ISO 2446:2008 in 20 milk samples. Data from the Central Statistical Bureau and survey among pregnant women were used to analyse milk product consumption and its impact on iodine status. Mononuclear rearrangement of heterocycles in ionic liquids catalyzed by copper(II) salts

Abstract The reactivity of E- and Z-phenylhydrazones of 3-benzoyl-5-phenyl-1,2,4-oxadiazole in the presence of CuCl2 and Cu(ClO4)2·6H2O has been studied in four imidazolium ionic liquids [bmim][X] (X=BF4−, PF6−, SbF6− and CF3SO3−). The reaction may follow different mechanistic patterns, depending on the nature of the ionic liquid anion, accounting for both qualitative and kinetic data. In the presence of CuCl2, two processes take place at the same time, i.e., the E⇆Z isomerization and the rearrangement of Z-isomer into the relevant 4-benzoylamino-2,5-diphenyl-1,2,3-triazole. For some years now the importance has been appraised of demonstrating elementary geometry to pupils and future teachers through interactive geometry software.
