CRH receptor (CRHR) 1 and the cannabinoid receptor 1 (CB1) are both G protein-coupled receptors. Oxygen and substrate deprivation on isolated rat cardiac myocytes : temporal relationship between electromechanical and biochemical consequences

The effects of hypoxia and reoxygenation on action potentials (AP), contractions, and certain biochemical parameters were studied in isolated rat ventricular myocytes in monolayer culture in the presence and absence of glucose. Substrate deprivation alone had no influence on the basal properties. In the presence of glucose, a 4-h hypoxic treatment caused only a moderate decrease in AP amplitude and rate. In substrate-free conditions, hypoxia induced a gradual decline in plateau potential level and in AP duration and rate, followed by rhythm abnormalities and a failure of the electromechanical coupling. Stimulation of calcium uptake by norepinephrine or high external potassium in human calyces and renal pelvis.

The effects of stimulation with either 10 mumol/l norepinephrine or 85 mmol/l extracellular potassium concentration on calcium uptake were studied in muscle strips from human renal calyces and from the renal pelvis. The apparent uptake of calcium under control conditions was essentially complete after 30 min. Stimulation of the muscle strips with norepinephrine or high external potassium significantly (P less than 0.05) increased the calcium uptake over the control values at 30 and 100 min, whereas 45Ca efflux was virtually not affected. Abstract —Vascular actions of progesterone have been reported, independently of estrogen, affecting both blood pressure and other aspects of the cardiovascular system. To study possible mechanisms underlying these effects, we examined the effects of P in vivo in intact rats and in vitro in isolated artery and vascular smooth muscle cell preparations. In anesthetized Sprague-Dawley rats , bolus intravenous injections of P (100 μg/kg) significantly decreased pressor responses to norepinephrine (0.3 μg/kg). Modified cryopreservation and xenotransplantation of human parathyroid tissue.

Introduction: A modified cryopreservation technique for human parathyroid tissue was compared with the standard method using a programmed freezer. Methods: Total parathyroidectomy was performed in three groups of 6-week-old Rowett nude rats. Group I (control) underwent no transplantation of parathyroid tissue (n=9). After 10 days, the rats of groups II (n=15) and III (n=15) underwent xenotransplantation of 20 mg cryopreserved human parathyroid tissue, which had been stored in liquid nitrogen at –196°C for 1–22 months prior to xenotransplantation. Vitellogenesis inhibition in Oncopeltus fasciatus females (Heteroptera: Lygaeidae) exposed to cadmium

Abstract Newly moulted females of the insect Oncopeltus fasciatus were exposed to cadmium (Cd) dissolved in the drinking water (50–400 mg l −1 Cd) for 5 days. Cd exposure delayed ovarian maturation and inhibited egg production. Exposure to Cd, moreover, decreased hemolymph levels of the two major vitellogenin polypeptides of O. fasciatus , VG1 and VG2, in a concentration-dependent way, probably by a reduction in their synthesis. The ovarian levels of VG1 and VG2 were also decreased in Cd-exposed females. The influence of monensin (10 µmol/L) alone and in the presence of verapamil (3 µmol/L) or ouabain (1 mmol) and prazosin (1 µmol/L) or glibenclamide (10 µmol/L) were studied on the muscle tension of guinea pig aorta. Changes in tissue sodium, potassium and calcium ion contents of the aortic muscle produced by monensin in the presence of prazosin were evaluated. Monensin in normal Tyrode's solution containing prazosin caused an increase in the resting tension followed by a decrease and returned to normal values. Abstract: Titanium platelets with a sand-blasted and acid-etched surface were coated with bovine serum albumin and incubated with a suspension of Porphyromonas gingivalis (ATCC 33277). Four groups with a total of 48 specimens were formed. Laser irradiation of the specimens (n=12) was performed on a computer-controlled XY translation stage at pulse energy 60 mJ and frequency 10 pps.
