In this study, methodologies for determining titanium oxide, zinc oxide and iron oxide are proposed and assayed in commercial sunscreen products. The proposed methodology for TiO2, determination in sunscreens is based on a microwave-assisted treatment for digesting the organic components in a closed teflon reactor in presence of HNO3 and HCl. Titanium is determined by inductive coupled plasma emission spectrometry (ICP-AES). Valence electronic structure of C60: Theoretical analysis of photoemission data

Abstract We present a theoretical investigation of the valence band photoemission spectra of C 60 using the nonempirical valence effective Hamiltonian (VEH) method. The VEH-DOVS curves calculated for the C 60 molecule are found to be in excellent agreement with synchrotron-radiation photoemission spectra reported for C 60 films. A detailed interpretation of all the photoemission bands is performed in the light of the VEH results.

The valence-band density of states of single-crystalline rock-salt CdO(001), wurtzite $c$-plane ZnO, and rock- salt MgO(001) are investigated by high-resolution x-ray photoemission spectroscopy. A classic two-peak structure is observed in the VB-DOS due to the anion $2p$-dominated valence bands. Good agreement is found between the experimental results and quasi-particle-corrected density-functional theory calculations. Occupied shallow semicore $d$ levels are observed in CdO and ZnO. While these exhibit similar spectral features to the calculations, they occur at slightly higher binding energies, determined as 8.8 eV and 7.3 eV below the valence band maximum in CdO and ZnO, respectively. We present an electronic structure study of a magnetic oxide/ semiconductor model system, EuO on silicon, which is dedicated for efficient spin injection and spin detection in silicon-based spintronics devices. A combined electronic structure analysis of Eu core levels and valence bands using hard X-ray photoemission spectroscopy was performed to quantify the nearly ideal stoichiometry of EuO “spin filter” tunnel barriers directly on silicon, and the absence of silicon oxide at the EuO/Si interface. Searching for new pi-conjugated charge-transfer systems, the electronic structure of a new acceptor-donor pair derived from coronene (C(24)H(12)) was investigated by ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy (UPS). The acceptor coronene-hexaone (C(24)H(6)O(6), in the following abbreviated as COHON) and the donor hexamethoxycoronene (C(30)H(24)O(6), abbreviated as HMC) were adsorbed as pure and mixed phases on gold substrates. At low coverage, COHON adsorption leads to the appearance of a charge-transfer induced interface state 1.75 eV below the Fermi energy. At present, some 50 inorganic components in wine can be detected, of which 8 are mineral matter at concentrations down to 1 mg/l, about 25 are trace elements with concentrations of 0.001–0.1 mg/l, and about 20 are ultratrace elements at concentrations below 1 μg/1. It has been shown that ICP-OES, a typical multielement detection method, permits the fast and reliable simultaneous determination of whole range of these inorganic species in wine, and thus can help in solving practical problems in wine manufacture. Abstract PANI aqueous nanocolloids in their acid-doped, inherently conductive form were synthesised by means of suitable water soluble polymers used as stabilisers. In particular, poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) or chitosan (CT) was used to stabilise PANI nanoparticles, thus preventing PANI precipitation during synthesis and upon storage. Photon Energy Dependent Hard X-ray Photoemission Spectroscopy of YbCu2Si2

We have performed photon energy ( h ν) dependent hard X-ray photoemission spectroscopy (HAXPES) for YbCu 2 Si 2 , which is a heavy Fermion compound with intermediate Yb valence. We identified that the bulk components in the Si 1 s and Yb 3 d spectra develop with increasing h ν from 2.5 to 6 keV. Moreover, the temperature dependence of the Yb 3 d spectra measured at h ν= 8 keV has shown a valence fluctuation behavior. These results suggest that high h ν HAXPES is essential to determine the mean valence of the Yb compounds.
