Chitosan-phosphotungstic acid complex as membranes for low temperature H2-O2 fuel cell

Abstract Free-standing Chitosan/phosphotungstic acid polyelectrolyte membranes were prepared by an easy and fast in-situ ionotropic gelation process performed at room temperature. Scanning electron microscopy was employed to study their morphological features and their thickness as a function of the chitosan concentration. The membrane was tested as proton conductor in low temperature H 2 –O 2 fuel cell allowing to get peak power densities up to 350 mW cm −2 . Electrochemical impedance measurements allowed to estimate a polyelectrolyte conductivity of 18 mS cm −1 .

Negative pressure cavitation accelerated processing for extraction of main bioactive flavonoids from Radix Scutellariae

Abstract To enhance the extraction efficiency and reduce the energy consumption, an emerging technology named negative pressure cavitation extraction (NPCE) has been shown to be a feasible option for the extraction of bioactive compounds in agricultural crops and medicinal plants. Origin based classification of crude oils by infrared spectrometry and chemometrics

Abstract Crude oil samples from different Iranian petrol resources in both, raw and mixture forms have been characterized by attenuated total reflectance mid infrared spectroscopy. Obtained spectra were classified by chemometric techniques to propose a method for geological based classification of crude oil samples. Totally 251 samples from 7 petrol fields and 3 mixtures were analyzed. Mean centering and principal component analysis (PCA) supported – leverage value based outlier detection were used as preprocessing approaches. Fully aerobic bioscrubber for the desulfurization of H2S-rich biogas

Abstract A fully aerobic bioscrubber for the desulfurization of H2S-rich biogas was developed in the present study by coupling an absorption column and a bubble column bioreactor. The bioscrubber treated H2S loading rates of 37, 59, and 100 g S mliquid−3 h−1 at gas residence times of 6.6, 4.1 and 2.4 min in the absorption column, respectively. Stable H2S removal efficiencies above 80% were recorded at all the conditions tested. The bioscrubber was robust towards short- and long-term operation shutdowns (5 and 18 days), the H2S removal performance being recovered after few hours. Stochastic models for wind speed forecasting

Abstract This paper is concerned with the problem of developing a general class of stochastic models for hourly average wind speed time series. The proposed approach has been applied to the time series recorded during 4 years in two sites of Sicily, a region of Italy, and it has attained valuable results in terms both of modelling and forecasting. Moreover, the 24 h predictions obtained employing only 1-month time series are quite similar to those provided by a feed-forward artificial neural network trained on 2 years data.

Improving Separation of Oil and Water With a Novel Coalescing Centrifugal Pump

Summary A novel centrifugal pump that increases oil-droplet sizes in produced water has been developed. This paper investigates a concept of pumping-pressure optimization, with respect to downstream separation efficiency, for the new pump. The investigation shows that the coalescing centrifugal pump always increased the separation efficiency of a downstream hydrocyclone. Furthermore, it is shown that the pumping pressure can be adjusted to maximize the improvement. Summary In this paper we present the development and implementation of automatic operation and control for a pump/hydrocyclone produced-water-treatment system to maximize oil/water-separation efficiency. A so-called perturb-and-observe (P&O) algorithm is adapted for a novel centrifugal pump to continuously optimize the point of operation.
