Fine structure in the α decay of 156Lu and 158Ta
2019
Fine structure in the α decay of high-spin states in 156Lu and 158Ta has been identified by means of αγ - coincidence analysis. One new α decay from 156Lu and two from 158Ta were identified, one of which was found to populate a previously unknown state in 154Lu. The hindrance-factor systematics from all four odd-odd, N = 85 nuclei with known α-decaying, πh11/2 coupled states were reviewed and are discussed. These proved consistent with the previously assigned (πh11/2νh9/2 )10+ configuration of the α-decaying state in 156Lu, which differs from the (πh11/2ν f7/2 )9+ assignments in the other three nuclei. peerReviewed
Excited states in 217Ra populated in the α decay of 221Th
2020
Fine structure in the α decay of 22190Th, populating excited states in 21788Ra, was studied using αγ-coincidence spectroscopy. Two α-decay branches from 221Th have been newly observed, with Eα(keV)[bα(%)]=7951(8)[0.14(3)] and 8247(3)[1.51(12)], together with three previously known branches. Also, two new states in 217Ra were identified at E = 177 and 227 keV. The ground-state configurations of the odd-A, N = 131 transitional isotones above 208Pb are interpreted from their α-decay fine structure systematics and considered in terms of predictions using spherical shell and reflection-asymmetric models. peerReviewed
Photovoltaic effect in bulk heterojunction system with glass forming indandione derivative DMABI-6Ph
2018
The aim of the work is to evaluate possible use of 2-[[4-(bis(2-trityloxyethyl)amino)phenyl]methylene]indane-1,3-dione (DMABI-6Ph) as light absorbing material for solar cells. DMABI-6Ph is a perspective material due to its good photoelectrical, thermal and chemical properties. The main advantage of DMABI-6Ph is its ability to form amorphous films by wet-casting methods thus allowing using the compound in organic solar cells made from solution. For now most popular materials for solution processable solar cells are polymer P3HT and fullerene derivative PCBM, but lot of investigations are in the field of new low molecular weight materials to replace the polymer. Photoelectrical measurements w…
Interpretation of the electronic absorption spectrum of free base porphin by using multiconfigurational second-order perturbation theory
1998
Abstract Multiconfigurational second-order perturbation (CASPT2) calculations have been performed on the low-lying optically allowed valence excited states of the free base porphin molecule in order to assign the four lowest bands of the spectrum. The low-lying triplet states have also been characterized. A basis set of the atomic natural orbital type of split-valence plus polarization quality for first-row atoms has been employed. Polarization functions are important for an accurate description of the transitions. These CASPT2 results provide a consistent picture of the experimental spectrum. Each band of the spectrum up to 4.5 eV is composed of a pair of states, which become degenerate in…
Dimethoxy Aromatic Compounds. VIII. Degenerate Dealkylation-Realkylation Reaction of 1-Bis(2,4-dimethoxyphenyl)-2-methylpropane.
1994
The condensation reaction under acid condition of the benzylic alcohols 1, 2 and 3 with the hexadeutero dimethoxybenzenes 4, 5 and 6 leads to the expected hexadeutero bis(dimethoxyphenyl)-2-methylpropanes 7, 8 and 9, respectively. However, the presence of both dodecadeutero and unlabelled 1-bis(2, 4-dimethoxyphenyl)-2-methylpropanes 10 and 11 indicates that 9 undergoes a rapid degenerate dealkylation-alkylation reaction.
Isospin symmetry in $B(E2)$ values: Coulomb excitation study of ${}^{21}$Mg
2018
The $T_z$~=~$-\frac{3}{2}$ nucleus ${}^{21}$Mg has been studied by Coulomb excitation on ${}^{196}$Pt and ${}^{110}$Pd targets. A 205.6(1)-keV $\gamma$-ray transition resulting from the Coulomb excitation of the $\frac{5}{2}^+$ ground state to the first excited $\frac{1}{2}^+$ state in ${}^{21}$Mg was observed for the first time. Coulomb excitation cross-section measurements with both targets and a measurement of the half-life of the $\frac{1}{2}^+$ state yield an adopted value of $B(E2;\frac{5}{2}^+\rightarrow\frac{1}{2}^+)$~=~13.3(4)~W.u. A new excited state at 1672(1)~keV with tentative $\frac{9}{2}^+$ assignment was also identified in ${}^{21}$Mg. This work demonstrates large difference…
Ordinary muon capture studies for the matrix elements in ββ decay
2019
High-purity germanium (HPGe) detectors were used to make a precise measurement of the γ-ray spectrum produced following ordinary (nonradiative) capture of negative muons by natural Se, Kr, Cd, and Sm. The measurement was repeated for isotopically enriched 48Ti, 76Se, 82Kr, 106Cd, and 150Smtargets. By investigating energy and time distributions, the lifetime of negative muons in the different isotopes was deduced. A detailed analysis of the intensity of the γ lines enabled the extraction of the relative yields of several daughter nuclei. The partial rates of (μ−,ν) capture to numerous excited levels of the 48Sc, 76As, 82Br, 106Ag, and 150Tc isotopes (considered to be virtual states of the in…
Precision mass measurements of 67Fe and 69,70Co: Nuclear structure toward N = 40 and impact on r-process reaction rates
2020
Accurate mass measurements of neutron-rich iron and cobalt isotopes 67Fe and 69,70Co have been realized with the JYFLTRAP double Penning-trap mass spectrometer. With novel ion-manipulation techniques, the masses of the 69,70Co ground states and the 1/2− isomer in 69Co have been extracted for the first time. The measurements remove ambiguities in the previous mass values and yield a smoother trend on the mass surface, extending it beyond N=40. The moderate N=40 subshell gap has been found to weaken below 68Ni, a region known for shape coexistence and increased collectivity. The excitation energy for the 1/2− intruder state in 69Co has been determined for the first time and is compared to lar…

The structure of low-spin states originating from shape-coexisting configurations in Ni284068 was directly probed via the two-neutron transfer reaction Ni66(t,p)Ni68 in inverse kinematics using a radioactive ion beam on a radioactive target. The direct feeding to the first excited 0+ state was measured for center-of-mass angles 4-16 and amounts to an integral of 4.2(16)% rela…
Mechanics of invagination and folding: Hybridized instabilities when one soft tissue grows on another
2015
We address the folding induced by differential growth in soft layered solids via an elementary model that consists of a soft growing neo-Hookean elastic layer adhered to a deep elastic substrate. As the layer/substrate modulus ratio is varied from above unity towards zero we find a first transition from supercritical smooth folding followed by cusping of the valleys to direct subcritical cusped folding, then another to supercritical cusped folding. Beyond threshold the high amplitude fold spacing converges to about four layer thicknesses for many modulus ratios. In three dimensions the instability gives rise to a wide variety of morphologies, including almost degenerate zigzag and triple-ju…
