Mechanical properties of materials obtained via alkaline activation of illite-based clays of Latvia
2015
Materials has been synthesized in the temperature range from 60-100 °C from two illite based clays of Latvia under activation of KOH and NaOH solutions (4-6 M). Compressive strength and apparent porosity were measured. The effect of concentration of KOH and NaOH solutions on the material mechanical properties was investigated by means of infrared spectroscopy (IR). Compressive strength data of the materials showed that via such activation could obtain building materials with good quality.
High-pressure study of the aurophilic topological Dirac material AuI
2022
We endeavour to explore the high-pressure study in the aurophilic AuI within the state-of-the-art of first principles. The impediment of expressing precise ground-state features of aurophilic compounds that had afflicted prior theoretical research has been resolved by incorporating van der Waals corrections (vdw). Mechanical and dynamical stability are ensured at ambient using the computed elastic constants and phonon dispersion curves. The dynamical instability is triggered by the application of pressure in AuI, as evidenced by the softening of an acoustic mode (Eu) at ∼7 GPa. Non-adherence of estimated elastic constants to the Born stability criterion at this pressure illustrates the syst…
Speciation of neptunium during sorption and diffusion in natural clay
2016
In argillaceous rocks, which are considered as a potential host rock for nuclear waste repositories, sorption and diffusion processes govern the migration behaviour of actinides like neptunium. For the safety analysis of such a repository, a molecular-level understanding of the transport and retardation phenomena of radioactive contaminants in the host rock is mandatory. The speciation of Np during sorption and diffusion in Opalinus Clay was studied at near neutral pH using a combination of spatially resolved synchrotron radiation techniques. During the sorption and diffusion experiments, the interaction of 8 μM Np(V) solutions with the clay lead to the formation of spots at the clay-water …
A year in the life of an aluminous metapelite xenolith—The role of heating rates, reaction overstep, H2O retention and melt loss
2011
Abstract Xenoliths of aluminous metapelite within the Platreef magmatic rocks of the Bushveld Complex, South Africa, are mineralogically and texturally zoned, with coarse-grained margins rich in acicular corundum, spinel and feldspar and cores rich in finer-grained aluminosilicate and cordierite. Xenoliths exhibiting remarkably similar features occur within other intrusions, suggesting a common origin. Using a single 3 m wide xenolith as a case study, a model is proposed to explain their petrogenesis. Mineral equilibria calculations in the NCKFMASHTO system show that the thermal stability of the solid phases, in particular corundum, is highly sensitive to the quantity of H 2 O retained in t…
PENGARUH PEMBERIAN PUPUK OSMOCOTE TERHADAP PERKECAMBAHAN 3 GENOTIPE ADENIUM
2018
This study aims to find out the effect of osmocote fertilizer to the germination of three genotypes of Adenium and also to compare the germination among three Adenium varieties. Factorial experimental method was being used in this pot experiment which designed by using Factorial Randomized Group Design. First factor is the 3 types of Adenium, while the second factor is 6 dosage levels of Osmocote. The results of this research showed that the addition of various dosage of the osmocote significantly affected the germination of 3 types of adenium. The effective dosage of Osmocote for adenium germination is one gram while the white flower adenium has the best germinability.
Histological and ultrastructural study of corneal tunnel incisions using diamond and steel keratomes
1998
Abstract Purpose: To study the morphology of corneal tunnel incisions using diamond and steel keratomes. Setting: Department of Ophthalmology, University of Giessen, Germany. Methods: Corneal tunnel incisions were performed in six human cadaver eyes using three types of diamond keratomes and a steel keratome. The incision profile and morphology were evaluated and compared using light and scanning electron microscopy. Results: The steel keratome caused more disruption of corneal stromal tissue, while the diamond keratomes produced a more regular, smoother incision. The dissecting incision resulted in a smoother surface of cut stromal tissue than the stab incision. Conclusions: The high quali…
Dual drug-loaded halloysite hybrid-based glycocluster for sustained release of hydrophobic molecules
2016
A dual drug-loaded HNT–CD glycocluster delivery system based on halloysite nanotubes and carbohydrate functionalized cyclodextrin was developed by a green protocol using solvent-free microwave irradiation. The nanohybrid was employed for concurrent load and release of silibinin and curcumin. The new delivery system was characterized by means of TGA, FT-IR spectroscopy, SEM and DLS. These techniques confirm the successful loading of the two drugs in the system. SEM and DLS measurements highlighted that the nanomaterial preserves a tubular structure with an average hydrodynamic radius of ca. 200 nm. The release of the drugs from the HNT glycocluster was investigated by means of UV-vis spectro…
Die pH-Statik als Hilfsmittel der Korrosionsforschung
1977
Structural reorganization in a hydrogen-bonded organic framework
2018
Self-recognition of 3,3′,5,5′-azobenzenetetracarboxylic acid drives the formation of a grid-like anionic hydrogen-bonded framework with channels occupied by organic cations. This supramolecular solid is capable of reorganizing its connectivity in the presence of specific guests into a different crystalline architecture by sequential dissolution and recrystallization.
ChemInform Abstract: Electrochemical Behavior of Metal Hydrides
2010
Metal hydride electrodes are of particular interest owing to their potential and practical application in batteries. A large number of hydrogen storage materials has been characterized so far. This paper deals with the effect of the chemical nature and stoichiometry of specific alloy families (AB5, A2B, AB/AB2 and AB2) on the hydride stability, hydrogen storage capacity and kinetics of hydrogen sorption-desorption in the solid phase/gas and solid phase/electrolyte solution systems. Special attention has been paid towards the electrochemical properties of metal hydrides in terms of their performance in Ni-MH rechargeable alkaline cells.
