Simultaneous application of vacuum and sweep gas in a polypropylene membrane contactor for the recovery of dissolved methane from water

Abstract Vacuum and nitrogen as sweep gas were used simultaneously (combination mode) to generate the driving force in a microporous polypropylene membrane contactor for the recovery of dissolved methane from water. Experiments were carried out under different liquid flow-rates (5.0–28.0 L h−1), N2 flow-rates (0.5–1.5 L h−1) and vacuum pressures (0–480 mbar). The maximum removal efficiency of methane was >90% at moderate values of gas-to-liquid ratios (G/L) and vacuum of 0.2 and ≤ 200 mbar, respectively. Photoluminescence of Ga-face AlGaN/GaN single heterostructures

Abstract The radiative recombination in Ga-face Al 0.30 Ga 0.70 N/GaN single heterostructures (SHs) was studied by photoluminescence (PL) measurements. An energy shift of the excitonic transitions toward higher energies was observed, indicating the presence of residual compressive strain in the GaN layer. In addition to these exciton lines, a broad band energetically localized between the exciton lines and the LO-phonon replica was noticed in the undoped SH. From its energy position, excitation power dependence, as well as temperature behaviour, we have attributed this luminescence to the H -band (HB), which is representative of the two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG) recombination.

The concentrations of the redox pair hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and oxygen (O2) can promote or decelerate the progression and duration of the wound healing process. Although H2O2 can reach critically high concentrations and prohibit healing, a sufficient O2 inflow to the wound is commonly desired. Herein, we describe the fabrication and use of a membrane that can contemptuously decrease H2O2 and increase O2 levels. Yttrium-doped hematite photoanodes for solar water splitting: Photoelectrochemical and electronic properties

Abstract We investigate yttrium-doped hematite thin-film photoelectrochemical properties and find yttrium incorporation to amply improve the performance as a photoanode for water splitting under visible light. We used the spray pyrolysis method to prepare a set of yttrium doped Fe2-xYxO3 (x = 0, 0.05, 0.10, 0.15, 0.2) thin films (thickness below 500 nm) on glass and transparent conductive oxide coated glass slides. Using a substitutional homovalent (Y3+) dopant, the effect on functionality is rationalised as a combined effect on the electronic structure and small polaron mobility from the lattice structure, impurity levels, lattice stability and variance in hybridisation. Pre-3000 Ma thermal history of the Archean Kaap Valley puton, South Africa

The Kaap Valley pluton is one of several early Archean (3200-3500 Ma) tonalitetrondhjemite plutons that surround the Barberton Greenstone belt, southern Africa. Precise dating using single-grain 207 Pb/ 206 Pb evaporation of zircon and 40 Ar/ 39 Ar laser step-heating of hornblende and biotite indicates that, in its interior, the Kaap Valley pluton preserves a memory of its initial intrusion and cooling, which spanned a time from 3225 to 3142 Ma. The pluton also records the effect of a low-temperature thermal event at its margin as seen by a 40 Ar/ 39 Ar biotite age of 3035 Ma, which is perhaps related to hydrothermal activity and gold mineralization in the adjacent Barberton Greenstone belt…

Abstract Belt drives work often with short center distances and very different wrap arcs so that high adherence characteristics are required at the belt-pulley contact. In addition, the belt flexural stiffness reduces the contact width, but this decrease may be compensated in part by the belt softening due to the shear compliance.
Amplitude analysis of the decayB±→π±π±π∓

We present a Dalitz-plot analysis of charmless B+- decays to the final state pi+- pi+- pi-+ using 210 fb^-1 of data recorded by the BABAR experiment at sqrt(s) = 10.58 GeV. We measure the branching fractions B(B+- -> pi+- pi+- pi-+) = (16.2 +- 1.2 +- 0.9) x 10^-6 and B(B+- -> rho^0(770) pi+-) = (8.8 +- 1.0 +- 0.6 +0.1-0.7) x 10^-6. Measurements of branching fractions for the quasi-two-body decays B+- -> rho^0(1450) pi+-, B+- -> f_0(980) pi+- and B+- -> f_2(1270) pi+- are also presented. We observe no charge asymmetries for the above modes, and there is no evidence for the decays B+- -> chic0 pi+-, B+- -> f_0(1370) pi+- and B+- -> sigma pi+-.

Abstract Comparing to linear vibration absorbers, nonlinear energy sinks (NESs) have attracted worldwide attention for their intrinsic characteristics of targeted energy transfer or energy pumping in a relatively wide frequency range. Unfortunately, they are highly dependent on the vibration amplitude to be attenuated and will play its role only if the external load exceeds a specific threshold value.
