Determinants and consequences of the Anti-mafia entrepreneurial behavior: an empirical study on southern italian small-medium entreprises
2013
In this study we question what determinants lead firms to adopt anti-mafia behaviors and whether firms adopting anti-mafia behaviors “pay the piper” for their conduct through reduced financial performance. A sub-sample of 111 Southern Italian Small and Medium Enterprises whose entrepreneurs have publicly opposed the mafia extortion was initially selected. By adopting a matched-pair design, anti-mafia firms were subsequently matched against a sub-sample of neutral firms. Determinants of anti-mafia behavior were investigated by using a regression logistic model in order to regress the anti-mafia choice on a set of financial, demographic, governance, and control variables. Performance and fina…

A Research Journey from National Systems of Innovation to National Systems of Entrepreneurship: Introducing the Sextuple Helix
2021
[EN] National systems of innovation (NSI) have attracted substantial interest from public administrations, the scientific community and international organizations. Innovation is a key factor for countries to be competitive in the today's global economy. Entrepreneurship is an innovation source that has gained importance in NSI research over the last few decades. This focus on entrepreneurship in the context of NSI has led scholars to propose novel concepts such as entrepreneurial ecosystems and the national system of entrepreneurship (NSE). This paper uses bibliometric methods and the Web of Science Core Collection (WoS CC) database to explore how entrepreneurship fits into NSI research an…
Foreign (In)Direct Investment in Chinese Contemporary Art Game: The Case Studies of Uli Sigg, Guy Ullens and beyond, 1989-2013
2021
The boom in Chinese contemporary art is the result of China’s opening to foreign investment and private entrepreneurship in 1978, and the significant contribution by the transnational art enterprises of long-term patron-investor-collectors, such as Uli Sigg and Guy Ullens, between approximately 1989 and 2013. Through the opportunity offered by the gap between the private market mechanism and national heritage process for the “art game”, these investors used a variation of the controversial “Saatchi model” to generate high ROI. A further effect has been to bring CCA onto the global stage and complete the ecosystem of the art industry, building a foundation for the art economy of post-Mao Chi…

Empowered by stigma? Pioneer organic farmers' stigma management strategies
2019
Abstract Pioneers of organic farming often faced social challenges as their innovative ideas on agriculture not only encountered opposition in the conventional farming community, but led to stigmatization of organic farmers as social deviants. In this study, we examine what kind of stigma management strategies pioneer organic farmers engage with in order to cultivate an alternative positive image of themselves. Our research is based on the interviews with 14 pioneer organic farmers. Based on a qualitative analysis of the interviews, we provide a model of those strategies that the creation from a stigmatized to valued identity requires. Our study increases the understanding of the institutio…
Lyties dimensija socialiniame versle: Lietuvos socialinių verslininkių patirtys
2017
This paper explores how …
