Slow release oral morphine versus methadone for the treatment of opioid use disorder

2019

ObjectiveTo assess the efficacy of slow release oral morphine (SROM) as a treatment for opioid use disorder (OUD).DesignSystematic review and meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials (RCTs).Data sourcesThree electronic databases were searched through 1 May 2018: the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, MEDLINE and EMBASE. We also searched the following electronic registers for ongoing trials: ClinicalTrials.gov, WHO International Clinical Trials Registry Platform, Current Controlled Trials and the EU Clinical Trials Register.Eligibility criteria for selecting studiesWe included RCTs of all durations, assessing the effect of SROM on measures of treatment retention, heroin use…

This article explores Finnish different-sex couples’ (n = 12) negotiations on their parental division of labour. Theoretically, the article is based on the literature on gendered parenting practices and relational negotiations. Our discourse analysis reveals how the couples produced ‘togetherness’ and ‘our family’ by representing their care practices as agreements, irrespective of whether the care was described as equally shared or distinctly gendered. Disagreements reflecting more individualistic tones, and mainly resulting from the mothers’ sense of unfairness, were especially foregrounded when the distribution of household duties was discussed. The analysis also revealed how men cited in…

Współczesne związki intymne w sieci przeszkód i sprzeczności

2020

PERMANENT INCOME, CONVERGENCE AND INEQUALITY AMONG COUNTRIES

2008

The literature on inequality has generally focused on the analysis of annual per capita income. This paper adopts a different approach by considering the life-cycle dimension of inequality and convergence between economies from 1960 to 2000. We analyze the present value of the set of incomes individuals obtain throughout their whole life (permanent income). On the basis of this approach, various simulations are made to determine the effect on inequality in permanent income of variables such as survival rates and the long-run growth rates in current income. The results indicate that survival rates are an important source of inequality. Inequality in permanent income is about one third higher…

Sharp estimates for eigenfunctions of a Neumann problem

2009

In this paper we provide some bounds for the eigenfunctions of the Laplacian with homogeneous Neumann boundary conditions in a bounded domain Ω of R^n. To this aim we use the so-called symmetrization techniques and the obtained estimates are asymptotically sharp, at least in the bidimensional case, when the isoperimetric constant relative to Ω goes to 0.

miR379-410 cluster miRNAs regulate neurogenesis and neuronal migration by fine-tuning N-cadherin

2014

N-cadherin-mediated adhesion is essential for maintaining the tissue architecture and stem cell niche in the developing neocortex. N-cadherin expression level is precisely and dynamically controlled throughout development; however, the underlying regulatory mechanisms remain largely unknown. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) play an important role in the regulation of protein expression and subcellular localisation. In this study, we show that three miRNAs belonging to the miR379–410 cluster regulate N-cadherin expression levels in neural stem cells and migrating neurons. The overexpression of these three miRNAs in radial glial cells repressed N-cadherin expression and increased neural stem cell different…

Remark on a nonlocal isoperimetric problem

2017

Abstract We consider isoperimetric problem with a nonlocal repulsive term given by the Newtonian potential. We prove that regular critical sets of the functional are analytic. This optimal regularity holds also for critical sets of the Ohta–Kawasaki functional. We also prove that when the strength of the nonlocal part is small the ball is the only possible stable critical set.

An approximate technique for determining in closed-form the response transition probability density function of diverse nonlinear/hysteretic oscillat…

2019

An approximate analytical technique is developed for determining, in closed form, the transition probability density function (PDF) of a general class of first-order stochastic differential equations (SDEs) with nonlinearities both in the drift and in the diffusion coefficients. Specifically, first, resorting to the Wiener path integral most probable path approximation and utilizing the Cauchy–Schwarz inequality yields a closed-form expression for the system response PDF, at practically zero computational cost. Next, the accuracy of this approximation is enhanced by proposing a more general PDF form with additional parameters to be determined. This is done by relying on the associated Fokke…

Overview of Other Results and Open Problems

2014

This chapter presents an overview of results related to error control methods, which were not considered in previous chapters. In the first part, we discuss possible extensions of the theory exposed in Chaps. 3 and 4 to nonconforming approximations and certain classes of nonlinear problems. Also, we shortly discuss some results related to explicit evaluation of modeling errors. The remaining part of the chapter is devoted to a posteriori estimates of errors in iteration methods. Certainly, the overview is not complete. A posteriori error estimation methods are far from having been fully explored and this subject contains many unsolved problems and open questions, some of which we formulate …
