Fixed point results on metric-type spaces

Abstract In this paper we obtain fixed point and common fixed point theorems for self-mappings defined on a metric-type space, an ordered metric-type space or a normal cone metric space. Moreover, some examples and an application to integral equations are given to illustrate the usability of the obtained results.

Dynamics of phase domains in the Swift-Hohenberg equation

Abstract We analyze analytically and numerically the dynamics of phase domains in the Swift-Hohenberg equation. For negative or small positive detuning domains contract and disappear. A large positive detuning leads to dendritic growth of the domains, and the formation of labyrinth structures. Intermediate detuning results in stable circular domains - the localized structures of the Swift-Hohenberg equation. The predicted phenomena should occur in parametrically driven chemical, hydrodynamical, and nonlinear optical systems.

Adaptive radiation along a thermal gradient: preliminary results of habitat use and respiration rate divergence among whitefish morphs.

Adaptive radiation is considered an important mechanism for the development of new species, but very little is known about the role of thermal adaptation during this process. Such adaptation should be especially important in poikilothermic animals that are often subjected to pronounced seasonal temperature variation that directly affects metabolic function. A best proximity point approach to existence of solutions for a system of ordinary differential equations

We establish the existence of a solution for the following system of differential equations (y x ′′((t t ) ) = = g f ((t t ,y x ((t t )) )) ,y x ((t t 0 0) ) = = x x *** in the space of all bounded and continuous real functions on [0, +∞[. We use best proximity point methods and measure of noncompactness theory under suitable assumptions on f and g. Some new best proximity point theorems play a key role in the above result.

Systems of quasilinear elliptic equations with dependence on the gradient via subsolution-supersolution method

For the homogeneous Dirichlet problem involving a system of equations driven by \begin{document}$(p,q)$\end{document} -Laplacian operators and general gradient dependence we prove the existence of solutions in the ordered rectangle determined by a subsolution-supersolution. This extends the preceding results based on the method of subsolution-supersolution for systems of elliptic equations. Positive and negative solutions are obtained.

Abstract: Background Health system planning requires careful assessment of chronic kidney disease (CKD) epidemiology, but data for morbidity and mortality of this disease are scarce or non-existent in many countries. We estimated the global, regional, and national burden of CKD, as well as the burden of cardiovascular disease and gout attributable to impaired kidney function, for the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study 2017. epiModel: A system to build automatically systems of differential equations of compartmental type-epidemiological models

In this paper we describe epiModel, a code developed in Mathematica that facilitates the building of systems of differential equations corresponding to type-epidemiological linear or quadratic models whose characteristics are defined in text files following an easy syntax. It includes the possibility of obtaining the equations of models involving age and/or sex groups. © 2011.

Parallel Computing for the study of the focusing Davey-Stewartson II equation in semiclassical limit

The asymptotic description of the semiclassical limit of nonlinear Schrödinger equations is a major challenge with so far only scattered results in 1 + 1 dimensions. In this limit, solutions to the NLS equations can have zones of rapid modulated oscillations or blow up. We numerically study in this work the Davey-Stewartson system, a 2 + 1 dimensional nonlinear Schrödinger equation with a nonlocal term, by using parallel computing. This leads to the first results on the semiclassical limit for the Davey-Stewartson equations.

Enabling quantum non-Markovian dynamics by injection of classical colored noise

The non-Markovian nature of quantum systems recently turned to be a key subject for investigations on open quantum system dynamics. Many studies, from its theoretical grounding to its usefulness as a resource for quantum information processing and experimental demonstrations, have been reported in the literature. Typically, in these studies, a structured reservoir is required to make non-Markovian dynamics emerge. Electrochemical identification of metal ions in archaeological ceramic glazes by stripping voltammetry at graphite/polyester composite electrodes

The electrochemical response of metal ions in different samples of coloured ceramic tin-lead glazes attached to graphite/polyester composite electrodes is described. In addition to the ubiquous signals for lead, reductive dissolution processes are followed by anodic stripping peaks for Co, Cu, Sb, Mn, Sn and Fe, enabling the direct identification of such elements in microsamples proceeding from archaeological glazed tiles from Valencia (Spain) workshops (16th-18th century).
