From the Classical Boltzmann Equation to the Generalized Kinetic models of Biological Systems

This paper deal with the classical Boltzmann Equation generalized to model populations in complex biological system. In particular, the populations refer to the cells of the immune system and to those of an aggressive host (cancer cells) in a human being. We will focus with the study of a spatially homogeneous continuous model, and derivation of the macroscopic model. The paper starts from a simple description of the classical Boltzmann equation and goes to the mathematical approach proposed to model the large systems of interacting entities focusing the competition between immune system and cancer cells.
Structure of self-rated health among the oldest old: Analyses in the total population and those living with dementia

No previous study has explored the structure of self-rated health (SRH), a measure holding strong predictive value for future health events, in the oldest old or in individuals with dementia. The aim was to construct a structural equation model of SRH for oldest old in general and for oldest old with dementia, and to explore direct and indirect associations between health-related factors and SRH. The purpose of the study was to investigate whether athletes’ perceptions about the motivational climate created by their coach influence emotion regulation strategies (i.e., cognitive reappraisal and expressive suppression), emotions, and psychobiosocial experiences of athletes. We investigate the temperature dependence of the shear viscosity to entropy density ratio η/s using a piecewise linear parametrization. To determine the optimal values of the parameters and the associated uncertainties, we perform a global Bayesian model-to-data comparison on Au+Au collisions at √sNN=200 GeV and Pb+Pb collisions at 2.76 TeV and 5.02 TeV, using a 2+1D hydrodynamical model with the Eskola-Kajantie-Ruuskanen-Tuominen (EKRT) initial state. Strictly convergent algorithm for an elliptic equation with nonlocal and nonlinear boundary conditions

The paper describes a formally strictly convergent algorithm for solving a class of elliptic problems with nonlinear and nonlocal boundary conditions, which arise in modeling of the steady-state conductive-radiative heat transfer processes. The proposed algorithm has two levels of iterations, where inner iterations by means of the damped Newton method solve an appropriate elliptic problem with nonlinear, but local boundary conditions, and outer iterations deal with nonlocal terms in boundary conditions.

The objective herein was to adapt and study the psychometric properties of Diener’s Flourishing Scale (FS) among the Colombian population. Accordingly, a cross-sectional study was conducted with a non-probability sample of 1255 Colombian adults.
