Ionotrophic 5-hydroxytryptamine type 3 receptor activates the protein kinase C-dependent phospholipase D pathway in human T-cells
1999
The present study was undertaken to investigate the role of the 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) ionotrophic receptor 5-HT3 in the activation of human Jurkat T-cells. 5-HT and 2-methyl-5-HT (2Me-5-HT), an agonist of the 5-HT3 receptor, induced increases in intracellular free Na+ concentrations, [Na+]i, via opening of the ionotrophic receptor in these cells. These two serotonergic (5-hydroxytryptaminergic) agents potentiated phytohaemagglutinin (PHA)-induced T-cell activation. However, they failed to potentiate dioctanoglycerol-plus-ionomycin-stimulated T-cell blastogenesis. Interestingly, an inhibitor of protein kinase C (PKC), GF 109203X, curtailed significantly 5-HT and 2Me-5-HT-potentiated T-c…
Increase of the FGFR1 signaling in the FGFR1-5-HT1A heteroreceptor complex in midbrain raphe 5-HT neuron systems via allosteric receptor-receptor int…
2015
The ascending midbrain 5-HT neurons known to contain 5-HT1A autoreceptors may be dysregulated in depression due to a reduced trophic support. New findings show existence of FGFR1-5-HT1A heteroreceptor complexes in the rat hippocampus with a partial characterization of their interface and in midbrain raphe 5-HT nerve cells. With in situ Proximity Ligation Assay (PLA) and supported by co-location of the FGFR1 and 5-HT1A immunoreactivities in midbrain raphe 5-HT cells, evidence for the existence of FGFR1-5-HT1A heteroreceptor complexes were obtained in the dorsal and median raphe nuclei of the Sprague–Dawley rat. Their existence in the rat medullary raphe RN33B cell cultures was also establish…
Selective recovery of phosphorus as AlPO4 from silicon-free CFB-derived fly ash leachate
2018
The prospect of phosphorus (P) recovery from siliceous fly ash was investigated. The phosphorus content in the pristine fly ash was 1.21%. Obtaining pure phosphorus products from fly ash is very challenging because of high concentration of other elements, silicon (Si) at 17.3% being the major contaminant. The fly ash was fractionated with sieve size of 125 μm to concentrate the phosphorus in the small-size fraction, which also facilitated the removal of 78% of silica (Si) in the solid phase. The fractionated fly ash was treated with 8 M HCl in order to remove 98% of Si by aging (5 h) of leachate until precipitation of Si-gel, and a phosphorus-rich solution is obtained. Iron (Fe) is also con…
Long term outcomes of fissurectomy and anoplasty for chronic anterior anal fissure without hypertonia: low recurrences and continence conservation
2021
Aetiopathogenesis of Chronic Anal Anterior Fissure (CAAF) remains poorly understood. Some anatomical, clinical and functional features suggest that pathophysiology may be linked to a reduced anal canal pressure. LIS appear illogical as a treatment for CAAF and the employ of techniques aiming to save the integrity of the sphincterial system appears more sensible. The aim of this study was to evaluate 5 years results of fissurectomy and anoplasty with cutaneous V-Y advancement flap in patients affected by CAAF without IAS hypertonia. We enrolled 20 women, affected by idiopathic and non-recurrent CAAF without hypertonic IAS. All patients were followed up for 5 years after surgery with evaluatio…
QSAR Modeling ANTI-HIV-1 Activities by Optimization of Correlation Weights of Local Graph Invariants
2004
Results of using descriptors calculated with the correlation weights (CWs) of local graph invariants for modeling of anti-HIV-1 potencies of two groups of reverse transcriptase (RT) inhibitors are reported. Presence of different chemical elements in molecular structure of the inhibitors and the presence of Morgan extended connectivity values of zeroth-, first- and second order have been examined as local graph invariants in the labeled hydrogen-filled graphs. By Monte Carlo method optimization procedure, values of the CWs which produce as large values as possible of correlation coefficient between the numerical data on the anti-HIV-1 potencies and values of the descriptors on the training s…
GRANULOMATOUS MASTITIS DURING CHRONIC ANTIDEPRESSANT THERAPY: IS IT POSSIBLE A CONSERVATIVE THERAPEUTIC APPROACH?
2012
Granulomatous mastitis is a rare benign inflammatory disease of the breast with multiple etiologies such as tuberculosis, sarcoidosis, foreign body reaction, and mycotic and parasitic infections. In contrast, idiopathic granulomatous mastitis (IGM) is characterized by the presence of chronic granulomatous lobulitis in the absence of an obvious etiology. Clinically and radiologically it may mimic breast carcinoma and so awareness of surgeons, pathologists, and radiologists is essential to avoid unnecessary mastectomies. Cases of IGM are reported during antidepressant therapy in patients also showing high levels of prolactinemia. In these cases, we believe that surgical excision must be avoid…
Stimulation of human T cells by microbial 'superantigens'.
1991
The enterotoxins and the TSST of S. aureus, the erythrogenic toxins A and C of S. pyogenes and a still uncharacterized exoprotein of M. arthritidis belong to a family of exotoxins that have in common a potent mitogenic activity for T lymphocytes of several species. These proteins stimulate CD4+ and C8+ T cells, as well as a fraction of gamma delta TCR-bearing T cells by cross-linking variable parts of the T cell antigen receptor with MHC class II molecules on accessory or target cells. They are functionally bivalent molecules having distinct interaction sites for variable parts of the TCR and for nonpolymorphic parts of the MHC class II molecule. For alpha beta TCR-bearing T cells the V bet…
Ursolic acid ameliorates stress and reactive oxygen species in C. elegans knockout mutants by the dopamine Dop1 and Dop3 receptors.
2020
Abstract Background Depression and stress-related disorders are leading causes of death worldwide. Standard treatments elevating serotonin or noradrenaline levels are not sufficiently effective and cause adverse side effects. A connection between dopamine pathways and stress-related disorders has been suggested. Compounds derived from herbal medicine could be a promising alternative. We examined the neuroprotective effects of ursolic acid (UA) by focusing on dopamine signalling. Methods Trolox equivalent capacity assay was used to determine the antioxidant activities of UA in vitro. C. elegans N2 wildtype and dopamine receptor-knockout mutants (dop-1-deficient RB665 and dop-3-deficient LX70…
Constituents of Peperomia vulcanica Baker & C. H. Wright (Piperaceae) with antiparasitic activity
2021
Abstract The investigation of the CH2Cl2-MeOH (1:1) extract of Peperomia vulcanica which showed antileishmanial activity during preliminary screening led to the isolation of two previously unknown compounds named peperolignan (1) and peperotannin (2) along with 13 known compounds. Their structures were determined on the basis of their spectroscopic data. The isolated compounds were assessed in vitro for their antileishmanial and antiplasmodial activities against Leishmania donovani 1S (MHOM/SD/62/1S) promastigotes and the Plasmodium falciparum chloroquine-sensitive 3D7 strain (Pf3D7), respectively. They were also assessed for their cytotoxicity on Raw 264.7 macrophage cells. The mixture of …
La antropología como ciencia libidinosa. Diderot y el viaje de Bougainville
2005
